During the centuries of Turkish domination, there was a bishopric in Vranje which accounts for the historical name of "Vranje eparchy" and which was an occasional seat of the delegate bishop of the Metropolia of Skopje.
Under the influence of public opinion abroad and diplomatic pressures, as well as the demand of the Vranje population, the Porte caught and punished the rebels and a royal commission even assessed the damages to be paid.
But, as the damages were never paid the citizens of Vranje managed to rebuild the church with their own means and labour, apparently on the previous foundations.

The monument was erected in the vicinity of Vranje, in the village of Mostanica (Osatica District), on an unmarked cemetery of the Serbian soldiers and financed by Vranje mountain climbers' and citizens' voluntary donations.

The essence of the choreography is this: the townfolk dance their soft, slow, and completely refined dances (part 0ne), then surrender to the enjoyment of the lively barefoot "Cocek" of their entertainers, and finally give in completely to the crazy rhythm and general joy of the dance.
The large number of dancers, the kaleidoscope of vivid costumes, and the passionate jangling of the "daire" (tamburine) lead the choreography to a maximum visual and rhythmic effect, which has contributed to the fact that this is the most well received of our choreographies.

According to some Vranje distributors, the latest confiscation resulted from an article by Slavoljub Djukic entitled "The End of the Serbian Fairy Tale".
Radio B2-92 will soon publish Djukic's book of the same title as a sequel to "He, She and Us", his earlier biography of Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic and his wife Mirjana Markovic, the leader of the Yugoslav United Left.
