Bohemia: Definition and Links by Encyclopedian.com - All about Bohemia
With Bohemia's conversion to Christianity in the 9th century, close relations were forged with the East Frankish kingdom, then part of the so-called Carolingian empire, later the nucleus of the Holy Roman Empire of which Bohemia was an autonomous part from the 10th century.
The title of "King of Bohemia", already granted to the Premyslid dukes Vratislav II[?] (1085) and Vladislav II[?] (1158), became hereditary (1198) under Ottokar I, whose grandson Ottokar II (king 1253-1278) founded a short-lived empire covering also modern Austria.
In the early 17th century opposition to Ferdinand II, Holy Roman Emperor as King of Bohemia led to the Thirty Years War and the selection of an alternative protestant king, Frederick V, Elector Palatine.

 Good King Wenceslas:
In 1086, Henry IV bestowed Vratislav II with the title "rex" in exchange for his military support; a century later, Vladislav II was also made king by Frederick Barbarossa.
This situation remained until the thirteenth century, when in the year 1212 Frederick II issued as part of his "Golden Sicilian Bull" the edict "Confirmatio Regalis Dignitatis Bohemiae," which pronounced the independent kingship of P_emysl Otokar I; and in 1216, the "Confirmatio Electionis Regis Bohemiae" further stipulated that the kingship would be hereditary.
Most importantly, after Frederick II’s "Golden Sicilian Bull" in 1216, it was important that the Czechs’ model for sovereignty have no less status than those to whom he served as a model for.

Bush and Kerry: Distant cousins and Bohemian 'blue bloods' - 03-11-2004 - Radio Prague
A well-known Czech-American scholar says that both President George W Bush and Senator John Kerry — who are very distant cousins, twice removed — can trace their roots back to Duke Borivoj I and Saint Ludmila.
Historians generally agree that the 11th century Bohemian King Vratislav II is the 28th great-grandfather of John Kerry — meaning you'd have to say the word "great" 28 times before saying "grandfather" to describe the relationship — while George W Bush is the 30th great-grandson of that same Bohemian king.
But noted scholar and genealogist Dr Miloslav Rechcigl, president of the U.S.-based Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences, claims the Bohemian "blue blood" in the two politicians' veins can be traced back even further, to Borivoj I, the earliest recorded duke of the Premyslid dynasty, who was born around the year 850.
