The Vuelta a España bicycle race is one of the three "Grand Tours" of Europe and, after the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia, the third most important road cycling stage race in the world.
The finish of the Vuelta is traditionally the Spanish capital, Madrid.
The most recent Vuelta (2005) was won by Roberto Heras from Spain, thereby breaking Rominger's record and becoming the first four-time winner.

You'd think they'd see the popularity of cycling just by looking at those forums, yet they decide that their hunting and fishing shows are going to generate more business, so they devote quite a bit of time and airtime broadcasting those types of shows.
If they actually put the effort into the Vuelta that they put into the Tour de France, they would find that they could generate more viewership and interest (and therefore, more money) than deciding that their hunting and fishing shows will be the moneymakers.

Today may have looked easy on paper but it turned out to be one of the hardest days of the Vuelta.

The 212.5 km-long ride includes three Cat 3 climbs, all located in the first half of the course, as well as three intermediate sprints on a fast downhill route to coastal finish town Vinaros, located only 10 metres above sea level (with the stage departing in 1000 metres altitude!).
Perfect conditions for a bike race, unlike in the year 2001, when the Vuelta first finished in Vinaros: We still can remember the torrential rain of that day, with the sky being so dark that it was hard for the cameras to record the moment when Juan Manuél Gárate won the stage.

Cipollini started the 2000 Vuelta de Espana but was tossed out of the race after he assaulted another rider who made insinuations about Cipollini's parentage after Cipollini berated him for his riding skills.
Cipollini was subsequently suspended for a period of time, but since it was late in the season, it went largely unnoticed.

Organizers of the Vuelta a España on Wednesday unveiled the course for the 60th edition of the Spanish national tour, which will see 21 teams tackle a 3239km (2012.71-mile) course in 2005.
