		In 1944 the Vulcan Foundry acquired Robert Stephenson and Hawthornes Limited and in 1945 received a large order for 2-8-0 locomotives for UNRRA in Europe.
		The Vulcan Foundry benefitted from orders sub-contracted from the North British Locomotive Company, but the writing was on the wall for all British manufacturers.

	Vulcan Locomotive Works History
		The Vulcan Foundry was founded in 1830 by Robert Stephenson in collaboration with Charles Tayleur, a Liverpool Engineer and owner of the Bank Quay foundry in Warrington.
		The Bank Quay Foundry also built the worlds first iron sea-going vessel again named the 'Tayleur' this vessel sank on its maiden voyage and was the Titanic of it's era with much of the blame being apportioned to the incompetency of its Captain and Crew.
		During the 1914-1918 War the foundry undertook a large amount of armament work and this was repeated again for a number of years prior to WW2 up to 1943 when the works was engaged to produce Tanks and other munitions for the War Department along with Torpedoes and Gun Mechanisms for the Admiralty.

	The Tank Museum - Bovington - Library
		Vulcan Foundry, of Newton-le-Willows in Lancashire, was the parent company for Matilda and also built these locomotives.
		T72953 was the last Matilda to be built by Vulcan so this photograph was probably posed to commemorate that event, notice that it carries no armament.
		This combination, photographed from another angle, was used in a post war publication charting the history of the Vulcan Foundry.

		The track is listed in the AW 1962 list of cinder tracks and was attached to the nearby Vulcan Foundry which still exists but not sure if the track still does.
		From the depiction of the track on the map, it seems to be oblate (flattened circle) with a straight extended at both ends.
		There used to be a Vulcan AC but they went out of existence in the 1950s and the track is unlikely to have been used much since then.
