Vytautas Finadar Beliajus was known as "Vyts" to his many, many friends, acquaintances, and his adopted American Indian family.
A folklore and dance magazine, published by Vyts Beliajus from 1942 to 1944 as a mimeographed armed-services newsletter, then as a printed publication from September, 1944 to Mr.
Beliajus' death in 1994, when its publication was assumed by the International Institute of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Vytautas Finadar Beliajus (often called "Vyts", born February 26, 1908 in Pakumprys, Lithuania, died September 1994) is considered the father of international folk dancing in the United States.
He specialized in Lithuanian dance, but performed and taught many other types of dance as well.
Beliajus was born in Lithuania and emigrated to the U.S. when he was 14 years old.

He was assistant editor and typesetter for VILTIS folk magazine 1980-1994, has published the "Index to VILTIS 1944-1994," and is currently researching and publishing a biography of the late Vytautas (Vyts) F. Beliajus, publisher and editor of VILTIS.
With Mary Bee Jensen, George Frandsen and Vyts Beliajus, DeWayne co-founded the National Folk Organization of the USA to preserve the folk dance and folkarts of the USA, and network those involved in such activities.
DeWayne has presented papers on American folk dance before world conferences of IOV (Internationale Organisation Fur Volkskunst), and CIOFF (Conseil International des Organisations de Festivals de Folklore et d'Arts Traditionnels) in Tunisia, Greece and Brazil.
