WBAI is a non-commercial, listener sponsored New York radio station, located at 99.5 MHz FM.
It joined the foundation in 1960, when it was given to Pacifica by philanthropist Louis Schweitzer.
Besides news, WBAI offers a diversity of radio formats, ranging from Freeform radio to music shows based around recreations of Medieval music or original recordings of Golden Age of Radio-era serials.

A healthy check and balance between board and management is best, but this is certainly in question at WBAI now that the faction of staff insiders who are in bed with management (despite all their "pro-worker" rhetoric) control the local board.
Here is the letter from Roger Manning who was not reelected by WBAI staff to the LSB and therefore is also losing his seat on the Pacifica Board of Directors where he was elected by the previous listener majority on the LSB.

Many of Gary's listeners who volunteered at recent WBAI fund raising marathons were shocked and dismayed to hear condescending ridicule of Gary and mockery of him and his message as Gary was offering positive messages on WBAI and raising record per minute donations.
The record is clear and pathetic, that after 25 years of selflessly participating and leading the building of WBAI as an independent voice, Gary Null would be treated as a common pariah and threatened with removal from the air for expressing free speech.
It's time for the small-minded malcontents who would turn WBAI into their private clubhouse to hear the voices of the listeners who support and ultimately are WBAI and let those voices be loud and free.

WBAI is a fantastic station, one whose principles and tenets fly in the face of conventional corporate radio.
WBAI is anything but typical, daring to take unconventional subject matters and broadcasting them for the public interest.
As WBAI is listener-sponsored and the support has been good during the last couple of fundraisers (I myself am a member of the station), I'm not quite sure what the usefulness would be in shifting programs around - this would seem to be in response to competition with other radio stations.

The Union began as an idea at WBAI in 1986, when there was considerable uproar over the problems caused by a new Program Director who had no understanding of WBAI, exhibited bad manners, cultivated an inability to deal honestly with people and who didn't know what he was doing in the first place.
