The WCW World Heavyweight Championship (which was renamed the World Heavyweight Championship) would continue to be used in WWF until it was merged with the WWF Championship into the WWF Undisputed Championship when Chris Jericho defeated The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin for the respective titles on December 9, 2001 on the PPV, Vengeance.
World Class' most storied feud was the legendary and long-running battle between the Von Erichs and the Freebirds, which began on December 25, 1982 during an NWA World Title match between Kerry Von Erich and champion Ric Flair at Reunion Arena in Dallas.
WCW attempted to counter this by dividing the nWo into the Hogan-led heel nWo Hollywood faction and the Nash-led face nWo Wolfpac faction, but many felt that it was a poor rehash of the original WCW vs. nWo storyline.

Initially, Austin was managed in WCW by a woman named "Vivacious Veronica", but was soon rejoined by his USWA manager Jeannie Clark, now using the name "Lady Blossom." From the start of his WCW run, Austin experienced success in the ring.
Austin won the WCW United States Championship on December 27, 1993 at Starrcade, defeating "The Natural" Dustin Rhodes in two straight falls of a two-out-of-three-falls match.
WCW Vice President Eric Bischoff fired Steve over the phone, telling Austin he was unmarketable.
