WDDX - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Many applications use WDDX to pass complex data to browsers where it can be manipulated with JavaScript, creating essentially a form of Ajax.
WDDX was created by Simeon Simeonov from Allaire Corporation in 1998, initially for the ColdFusion server environment.
WDDX and XML-RPC, both created in 1998, were the precursors to SOAP and Web services.

WDDX is an XML-based technology that enables the exchange of complex data between Web programming languages, creating what some refer to as 'Web syndicate networks'.
WDDX consists of a language-independent representation of data based on an XML 1.0 DTD, and a set of modules for a wide variety of languages that use WDDX.
The WDDX protocol was developed in connection with the ColdFusion server environment.

WDDX consists of a language and platform neutral representation of instantiated data based on XML 1.0 and a set of modules that translate native language environment data structures into XML and vice versa.
WDDX provides no mechanism via which the contents of its packet can be described or validated against some notion of what a "valid" data packet is. Therefore, WDDX is not related to RDF (Resource Description Framework) and does not use any of its capabilities.
WDDX's timing is excellent because currently (a) there aren't many native XML datasources on the Web, (b) developers lack knowledge of XML, and (c) currently, most interesting data lives in some form of application data structures at some point, e.g., in a recordset before becoming a report web page.

WDDX works by converting language-specific data structures into their corresponding XML representations.
WDDX consists of two parts: the WDDX specification that defines basic WDDX structures, and a set of WDDX components for different languages that handles the translation of language-specific data structures into platform-independent XML representations.

WDDX is particularly well-suited for use on the Web because its XML data format can be easily transported over HTTP.
Probably the easiest way to do this is to build an object factory for particular types of WDDX packets and apply it on the result of the deserialization.

This conversion process between languages is relatively transparent to developers by shifting any XML processing and interaction into the WDDX modules, eliminating developers from having to directly program or manipulate XML themselves, This is not an RMI mechanism.
