The TV news director is in charge of the strategy for the news department, news coverage and overseeing news meetings, said Brad Moses, director of marketing for WFLA.
TAMPA Don North, news director of Media General Inc.'s CBS affiliate KWCH-TV in Wichita, Kan., has been named news director of WFLA, Channel 8.
"One of the things I have seen with WFLA is that it appears that the values of the station are very similar to what we have in Wichita -- people who are very proud of what they are putting on the air," North said.

Just because WFLA is a whore and that its co-owned Tampa Tribune defends WFLA-TV is not an indictment against all cross-ownership situations; it doesn't mean the A.H. Belo Company, that owns the Dallas paper and WFAA-TV, is a whore.
But, naturally, being the curmudgeon blogger than I am and the radio industry veteran that I am (and I am writing this on Veteran's Day--I'm also a Veteran of the Korean War and went to Columbia on the GI Bill), I can't help but comment on Jack's prescription for the radio industry's health.
Many AM stations, especially talk and all-news stations, run a full load of 18 minutes of commercials in an hour, which, in this era of 30-second spots, means a possibility of 36 commercial units in an hour.

Channel 8 then changed its call letters from WFLA to WXFL because at the time the Federal Communications Commission mandated that TV and radio stations could not use the same call letters if they were not owned by the same company.
When that FCC rule changed under deregulation of the broadcast industry, Jacor Communications, which owned WFLA-AM at the time, agreed to Channel 8's sharing the WFLA call letters.
When the radio stations were sold to Blair Broadcasting Corp. of Florida in 1982, Media General wanted the radio station to adopt new call letters but Blair refused.
