To set the record straight - a record the Boston Globe keeps misstating - Murdoch basically thumbed his nose at Kennedy, kept the Herald and sold his ownership interest in Channel 25, which remained a Fox-TV affiliate.
What the Herald editorial doesn't mention is that Murdoch didn't sell his ownership interest in WFXT Channel 25 until after the FCC denial his appeal seeking a waiver of its rule prohibiting ownership of a newspaper and a TV station in the same market.
(Of course, since WFXT remained a Fox affiliate, it mattered little who owned the station—it was still broadcasting programming from a Murdoch-owned company, and it's doubtful that the Herald was willing to expend resources on critical coverage of what was still, for all intents and purposes, its sister.)
