 WGBH
WGBH also produces many shows for both networks, including nearly a third of PBS's prime-time TV.
WGBH received its first broadcasting license in 1951 under the auspices of the Lowell Institute Cooperative Broadcasting Council, a consortium of local universities which had previously produced programs for broadcast by commercial stations.
WGBH is Boston, Massachusetts ' longtime public television and public radio station ( PBS and NPR affiliates, respectively).

 WGBH-TV/WGBX-TV Sign-off(s)
It was fantastic especially if you brought the color level on your TV set, full strength.
Since both WGBH and WGBX are now 24 hours a day, the mission statement is rarely heard anymore.
(Both WGBH and WGBX switched to color in 1967.) They ran this until 1972.

 WRTB-TV, Channel 2
TV at that time was still a young medium and Raytheon's TV operations were simply one of many irons in the fire for that company.
There were several CP's in the Boston area in 1955, namely WXEL-TV Channel 38, WJDW-TV Channel 44, WHEF-TV Channel 62 (Brockton) and others.
Though Raytheon had plenty of technical ability to construct and operate a television station, programming was NOT their main product.

 Dish Locals in 151 cities
Conversely, WABW and WACS have studios and towers outside the Albany TV Market, but are licensed to towns within the TV market.
KYUK TV 4 PBS Bethel, AK is outside all designated TV Markets and not eligible for Must Carry.
Here is the kicker, even though these are both repeaters of channel 8 WGTV Atlanta, since WABW's transmitter is in Florida, Dish may have to provide both identical feeds to this TV Market.

This 2-hour Bravo production is one of TV Guide's "Don't Miss" picks in its 11/30-12/6 issue as an "insightful documentary", as well as the People Magazine "Tube Pick Of The Week" in its 12/9 issue.

A selection from a decade of visits to tower and studio sites in the Northeast and beyond
And Westinghouse generously provided tower space for Boston's public broadcasters as well, moving WGBH-TV (Channel 2) here from its original home atop Great Blue Hill in Milton and, in 1967, allowing WGBX (Channel 44) to use this tower, too.
WGBH's building is relatively empty these days; the space that once housed big tube transmitters for both Channel 2 and Channel 44 now houses only a solid-state Harris transmitter for Channel 2 (you can see it in the background in this photo).
From the 1970s until just a few years ago, the tower was topped by the Channel 4 antenna, with panel antennas below it for channels 5, 2 and 44, then the FMs below that.

 RadioDXer.com-->The UHF Morgue
Commercial TV, as we all know, started with the former W2XBS becoming WNBT, Channel 1 (now WNBC-TV, Channel 4) in New York City on July 1, 1941.
Many TV stations in the New York and Philadelphia areas actually shared their transmitter tubes with each other, on an ongoing basis, to extend the life of the tubes.
Fortunately, UHF came of age with the "All-Channel Legislation" in 1964 where all TV's made after 1964 had to have built-in UHF reception capability.

 The Long Patrol: May Updates
Speaking of the TV series, I've been corroborating sources and I now feel confident in announcing that it looks like PBS may very well have picked up Season Two (eps14-26) of Redwall (better known among the fans as the "Mattimeo" episodes).
- WGBX, Boston, MA, will no longer be airing the series.
Those of you who had the tenth or eleventh episode airing last weekend should be watching Mattimeo very shortly.

 The Boston TV Market
The Boston TV market includes all of Massachusetts from Worcester County eastward, except for Bristol County and parts of Norfolk County near the Rhode Island border (which are in the Providence market).
The great disparity between Boston's ranking as a radio market (#10) and its ranking as a TV market can be explained by the inclusion of most of New Hampshire, which for other media is considered a separate market.
In the Archives, we list the New Hampshire stations separately to avoid cluttering this listing with stations that do not truly serve Boston.

 2004-April.txt
TV only breaks for commercials during continuing coverage of an event, not during a story on the evening news.
All Access reporting that WMTW-AM (870 Gorham ME) will once again be the flagship station this season for Portland Sea Dogs baseball, and that WMEX-FM (106.5 Farmington NH) becomes the 11th affiliate of the Sea Dogs radio network.
Instead of blowing up the schedule to make way for extended begging, just take a few funder avails every day to run a prerecorded promo inviting people to donate if they want to support the program they're listening to.
