WJEC and the Welsh Assembly Government are pleased to announce the launch of a major new initiative designed to support examinations officers in schools and colleges throughout Wales.
WJEC Chief Executive Gareth Pierce today congratulated students in Wales for their excellent achievements at A Level and AS Level.
WJEC will be offering a number of activities and events free of charge during the Eisteddfod week and the chance to see Glyn Wise from ‘Big Brother 2006’.

The Welsh Joint Education Committee (WJEC) was established in 1948, originally as a consortium of local education authorities.
The WJEC provides 4 qualifications specifically for adults who are learning Welsh as a second language, in a series called 'Defnyddio'r Gymraeg' or 'Using Welsh'.
All 4 have been accredited by the Welsh Assembly's regulatory body, ACCAC (Qualifications, Curriculum and Assessment Authority for Wales), and are subject to the ACCAC Code of Practice.

This submission outlines the current provision by the WJEC through the work of the National Language Unit and the Examinations Section and is followed by recommendations as to how greater prominence and effectiveness could be achieved.
One of the major responsibilities of the WJEC's Officer for English in Wales is to promote within all schools in Wales the study of that literature which has a special relevance to its culture and identity in the English language.
In 1996 the WJEC's Officer for English worked with ACCAC to draft an outline of needs identification in English, focusing on resources to support the reading of Welsh writing in English in schools at Key Stages 3 and 4.

 AS Geography WJEC specification
The AS is made up of three equally weighted units (each worth a third of an AS or 16.7% of an Advanced qualification).
Many geography teachers and students will be familiar with the WJEC GCSE Geography B (Avery Hill) syllabus.

I will be teaching next year in a school that has opted for WJEC Spec A; studies have provisionally been selected, but I have been given scope to change them if I prefer others that are available.
Having said that, it is increasing in popularity - WJEC has had to appoint extra examiners for it for the last 2 years.
Germany during the war isn't as well resourced as the rest of the depth, but the WJEC book covers it, as does the Lacey and Sheppard SHP one, and there is a great 'World at War' episode which covers it all too.

WJEC emphasise candidates need to have experienced fieldwork to be able to answer the questions.
Although Chelmsford County High School tackle the personal enquiry for Paper 3 (Investigative Study) of the OCR 9050 syllabus, the enquiry sequence is similar to that expected by WJEC.
Candidates hand in a 2000 word report of a 'fieldwork investigation' that was part of their work for GG1 and GG2 (ie something organised by your teachers).

The WJEC book for the course is definitely worth having because the exam papers are based on it, but you are right that you need something else as a text, or a lot of supplementing with worksheets etc.
The WJEC produced student book is good for revision and your own notes but not really suitable for use in class.
