WJLB dropped slightly in the ratings, however, from a 7.1 share last summer to a 6.8 share in the fall.
In mornings, WJLB's John Mason dropped from a 9.3 to an 8.1 in the overall accounting and slid from an 8.9 to a 7.5 in the 25-54 race.
Afternoons 3-7 p.m., WJLB slid from a 7.6 to a 6.1 in the 25-54 ratings and from a 9.4 to a 7.9 overall.

It stayed on top for the next year, but in the winter of 1993, the ratings fell back down to earth, partly due to new competition from Alliance Broadcasting's WYCD (99.5).
WJLB remained strong as the music leader in the early nineties, while the top 40 stations began to reassess their strategies.
By the mid-nineties WJLB, under the ownership of Evergreen Media, became the number one station (12+) in the market.

The footage was all real, and most of the film was shot in areas that hold lots of good memories for me.
I thought it was cool that WJLB's Bushman even played himself in the movie (scroll to the bottom for the chubby-cheeked guy in Coogi).
Only thing that could have made it better for me would have been a cameo by the "Electrifying Mojo" (who was steering his mothership away from WJLB to a competitor during the movie's timeline).

Mason still talks about how he scrapped three hours of programming on his WJLB show one morning two years ago to let angry listeners call in and vent about the suspected shoplifter who was killed by a security guard at Fairlane Town Center.

For nearly 20 years he also held a mix show spot on WJLB, working right up until his passing due to complications from asthma and pneumonia.
He was one of my biggest influences in terms of tight flawless mixes, catching and mixing out on the breaks, and creating a vibe with the record selection.
Duane will be considered a legend to me because in his days he was a record breaker in the clubs.
