 Motorsports - Encyclopedia.WorldSearch
The main rally championship is the World Rally Championship (WRC), but there also some regional championships and most countries have their own national championships like the SCCA ProRally organized by the SCCA in North America.
Like rallying, touring car racing is done with highly modified production cars, but they race at the same time against each other, mainly on closed circuits.
Rallying, or rally racing, involves highly modified production cars on (closed) public roads or off-road areas.

 Krzysztof Hołowczyc & Hołowczyc Management
A sounding conducted for a new rally magazineWRC” which will be introduced at the beginning of 2002, shows that rallying is one of the most popular sports in Poland.
Rallying symbolizes courage, dynamism, technical progress, agility and consequently rally drivers are perfect for the purpose of endorsement advertising.
This is because of very strong identification of a spectator with a rally driver, since driving license owners watching rally events tend to believe that being a professional rally driver lies within their capabilities and does not necessarily require years of hard training so typical of other sports.

Rally of Melbourne director, Neil Cuthbert, agreed that a change of date was logical, despite his event not wanting to relinquish being the final event in the championship.
The Rally of Melbourne is all set to take place in 2003, although plans for the event are still in their infancy.
The Rally of Melbourne and the Subaru Safari Tasmania have swapped dates for the 2003 Australian Rally Championship after a clash of dates made it impossible for both events to run on their originally calendared dates.

Silvretta Classic Rally Montafon - european car Magazine
WRC fanatics eager to experience the view through the windshield, or at times the side window, of today's high-tech rally cars can rely on a joystick and an ultra-quick video card, plus a pit crew of software geeks, to put them in the driver's seat.
Besides the add-on rally instrumentation, the only other changes to the dash are the switches for the three, large driving lights and a switch marked "fanfare" that changes the horn mode to louder air horns.
The red 230SL rally car, bearing Bohringer's #39, was one of seven cars the Mercedes Classic Center in Fellbach, Germany, entered in last July's Silvretta Classic, the sixth edition of this prestigious vintage rally for cars built prior to 1975, which takes place on the challenging and scenic roads through the Alps of western Austria.

Rallysport Magazine On-line - WRC Engineers
I lived at Charlevoix to the south of Brussels in Belgium, the town which in rallying was well known as the base for the Lucien Bianchi Rally, and my Grandmother used to live just at the bottom of a road which was used as a speed hill climb course.
As I had the most rally experience I became the chief rally engineer in 1998 and the 2000 car was the chance for me to start working from white sheets of paper.
Nowadays rally cars are racing cars on gravel.

 Subaru Drive Magazine: Winter 2003
WRC regulations allow trick gearboxes, so each Subaru WRC rally car is fitted with an $80,000, sequential-shift, semi-automatic gearbox similar to the gearboxes in Formula One cars.
The rest is rallying history: The team has won three manufacturer's and two driver's world championships since, and the Impreza WRX, Colin McRae and Richard Burns have become rallying icons.
John Rettie – a rally enthusiast for more than 35 years – is a well-known writer, photographer, consultant and analyst covering the automotive, photography and high technology industries.

 i-Club -- Forums - FIA announces new WRC rules...yikes!
As for the WRC in North America, I think it hasn't made it here because there's no way any safety regulations are going to let cars zoom through the small town streets with fans in the middle of the track trying to get a good picture.
WRC events suffer from the highest level of attrition during the stages than any other form of motorports.
moving Australia to November means that the rally runs at the start of the southern hemisphere summer, as opposed to the middle of their winter, like it does right now.

Sport Compact Car Magazine: SCCA Rally Classes
A rally car was one of the development mules for this turbocharged monster, and it should prove very competitive and relatively easy to prepare.
One of the many lessons learned on the rally beater is that while everybody loves a beater, nobody wants to put their name on one.
Every all-wheel-drive rally car breaks transmissions, so you have to plan to replace the gearbox at least once and possibly several times per season.

Unofficial WRC Rally News - Article : Rallye-Info.com
Rallying is a form of motorsports that is run over ordinary roads rather than in specialized circuits used in Formula One or off-road environment used in endurance events like Paris-Dakar.
And in distinction to rally-sprints, stages used in rallying are much longer (up to 40 to 50 km, average being 10 to 30 km) and special co-drivers are used to call pace notes.
It is a complement to the Rally Glossary in which certain things are explained in depth.

Rally America the group taking over from SCCA ahs worked hard to keep our rates down but there is still a 20-35% increase in rates.
Stage Rally was only about 5% of the SCCA so it was left with no choice.

Commentary News: Can WRC Rally Be Saved?
WRC Rally is not going to disappear tomorrow, any more than F1 will.
Combine this with the fact that WRC Rally is a monstrously expensive sport, and you have a sport in freefall.
As someone who participates in Rally in the USA (http://www.katinger.com/2004/08/maine-forest-rally.php) I was particularly saddened by the SCCA killing Pro and Club rally from 2005 on (http://www.drivingsports.com/a/templates/topic.aspx?articleid=43&zoneid=1).

Rallysport Magazine On-line - Rally GB - Ford preview
The rally will again be based in the Welsh capital of Cardiff, with all the action taking place in the mountainous forests of south Wales.
Matthew and co-driver Scott Martin lie third in the British Rally Championship in their first season of competition and are just two points behind the leader with two rounds remaining.
The rally has a strong entry but I think a top five result is possible.

The first half hour was a rallye pre-show (which you could catch seperate the Friday before) with each additional half hour being day one two and three.
What sucks is that Speed pushed the WRC even later now and as mentioned they just title it "Auto Racing".

 VWvortex Forums: New WRC rules??
As opposed to traditional rally lines with the back end all over the place, which is much more fun to watch.
This Championship is run according to the sporting regulations of the FIA World Rally Championship in their entirety, except with regard to the following articles which are specific to the Championship.
i think this is somewhat the direction that WRC needs to go in, the super 2000 league would attract a lot more manufacturers as the projected cost of the s2000 class cars is around $200,000 instead of $400,000 or gods knows where the price of WRC cars is at now.

Sega Rally 2006 coming to PlayStation 2 - PlayStation 2 News at GameSpot
Screenshots of Sega Rally 2006 show the same blue Subaru Impreza from former images released of Sega Rally 2005, suggesting that this "new" game is simply a renaming of Sega Rally 2005, a change perhaps made when the game's release date slipped outside of its titular year.
Sega Rally 2006 will be the first time that a new version of the racing game series has debuted on a console instead of in arcades.
It seems that Sega Rally 2005 will not be coming out as originally planned, or at least it's been renamed.

 Motorsports Rundown: April 8-10 - Autoblog - www.autoblog.com _
It's unlikely rally racing will gain in popularity in the US until an event can be scheduled, and the FIA is saying that won't happen for at least five years (they've posted schedules already that far in advance).
A diverse racing weekend; WRC is at New Zealand to see if Subaru can keep posting the best times with the new Impreza, NASCAR is at Martinsville, Champ Car World Series get their season started at Long Beach, NHRA is draggin’ in Texas and the Speed Series are in Florida.
It is a pity that WRC is aired only for a limited time on a Sunday night.

 Octane.ie > Guide > Lancia Delta Integrale
Unlike the Japanese reinterpretation of a rally car for the road, the Delta is about as reliable as you would expect an Italian car, which has been extensively tuned to within an inch of its life, to be.
Borne and bred on the rally circuit, the Integrale is, put simply, probably the greatest car of all time.
One of my favourite books in the entire world is a Hilton Holloway (of CAR Magazine fame) special called ‘The A-Z Of Landmark Cars’ which is basically a two inch thick car encyclopedia, chronicling every great car ever built.

Sport Compact Car Magazine WRX test
One Kodak moment had the Vishnu and Rally Performance crews dragging a leaky porta-john across to the downwind side of the lane, as it blew paper everywhere...
In the August issue of Sport Compact Car Magazine, the writers invited a few tuners for a shootout against the new 2.5 liter STi.
The Rally Performance WRX performed well, staying within one second of a car with 100 more horsepower.

Michelin Race of Champions - european Car Magazine
This competition was introduced in 1999 and each nation is asked to enter a rally driver, a racer and a biker--the French team, for example, comprised WRC runner-up Sebastien Loeb, Toyota F1 star Olivier Panis and world 250cc rider Randy de Puniet.
The event is the brainchild of former rally star Michele Mouton and was foundered 15 years ago to commemorate the death of Group B hero Henry Toivonen.
This year's field included two current F1 drivers, four WRC stars, two NASCAR drivers, two members of the Le Mans-winning Bentley team, the Speedway world champion, a Moto GP rider and an X Games legend.

Amazon.co.uk: PC & Video Games: World Rally Championship II Extreme Platinum
The rallies may be similar but all the stages are different from the original WRC game, so you are getting a 'new game' for your money.
My last rally experience was V-Rally 3, and although I did love it after getting to grips with the tricky controls, I grew to hate V-Rally 3 due to the ridiculous damage modelling and insane difficulty.
And as with most rallying games, it's a meaty challenge, particularly in the early stages as you get used to things, and towards the end, as you try to win everything.

World Rally Championship in magazine "Greitis" (colour, monthly)
In a spectacular finale to the 2003 WRC series, the 28-year-old won the Wales Rally GB by a margin of 43.6 seconds, to collect the fifth WRC win of his career, his second consecutive victory in Wales and secure the 2003 WRC Drivers’ title.
Since their first WRC win in Wales last year, the pair have recorded another four outright rally victories, 48 stage wins and seven podium finishes.

 i-Club -- Forums - WRC Rally DVDs [Revisited] - "2004 or Bust"
Each Rally is on a seperate DVD (it's just the way it worked out) with it's coresponding Rally Magazine, and a basic [static] menu.
If I at least get the two Rally Magazines from someone, I could send out sets (though I'd love to be able to include the ProRallies as well).
I could shrink the rallies just a little, in order to stick two on, but next season it would mean waiting for two rallies to finish before making a dvd.

Pi Research - data loggers, data acquisition systems and analysis products for every category of motorsport.
In the future other rally teams will be able to benefit from our experience because some of the information that the Pi WRC group has gained while working on the 2003 Focus WRC is being applied to future Pi products”.
Christian Louriaux commented on the electronics package saying “The electrical and electronics systems on WRC rally cars are getting hugely sophisticated, what the Pi engineers and the electrical department have delivered is a solution that meets my requirements set out for the 2003 Focus WRC”.
Pi has only been involved in rallying at this level for two years, it has been a huge learning curve for everybody, but I am now confident that the electronics system on the car is one of the most fully developed in the series.
