WSB was the first radio station in the South, and the callsign means "Welcome South, Brother." The station was founded by the Atlanta Journal.
WSB AM ("NewsTalk 750") is a clear channel AM radio station in the city of Atlanta, Georgia with a frequency of 750 kHz.
WSB was the origin of the trademark three-tone NBC chimes.

When it took to the airwaves, WSB-FM initially broadcast under the ID "WSB 99 FM", shifting to "WSB 98.5" due to an Arbitron ratings clash with WARM (now WNNX) 99.7 in the mid-80s.
WSB-FM shares a tower with WPBA TV 30, and in fact shares the same antenna with WSTR FM 94.1 and WVEE FM 103.3.
It is the only Atlanta FM radio station to share call letters with TV and AM radio stations.

FM became the preferred band for music listeners by the early eighties.
Atlanta's first commercial AM radio licensee was WSB, which stood for "Welcome South, Brother." The station was put on the air in 1922 by the Atlanta Journal.
As networks began to lead the new medium in its first decade, WSB became an NBC affiliate in 1927 and then increased to 50,000 watts in 1933, landing on the 750 AM position.

WSB Radio, the first radio station to broadcast in the city of Atlanta, was "born" on March 15, 1922, when it went on the air for the first time at a power of 100 watts.
The WSB Radio Records contain correspondence, memos, news clippings, publicity materials, program log books, photographs, artifacts, and sound recordings dating from 1922 through approximately 1984, and covering such topics as the history of WSB Radio, performers and programs offered over the air, and radio's response to the advent of television.
Both The Journal and WSB were purchased by Governor James M. Cox of Ohio in 1939; WSB is still a property of Cox Broadcasting Corporation, which was formed when Cox operations reorganized in 1964.

WSB's long history is far from forgotten, though; in the hallway leading from the lobby to the WSB-TV studios, a series of display cases highlight the station's past, including the chimes that were said to be the model for the famous NBC "G-E-C" musical signature and the childrens' show puppet that inspired Toy Story's Woody.
That's because WSB's home, on this same piece of land at 1601 W. Peachtree, was an antebellum-style mansion known locally as "White Columns" in honor of the, yes, white columns that decorated its facade.
