The WTA Tour Championships is a tennis tournament played annually at the end of the season for the top-ranked players on the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) tour.
From 1972-1994, the event was known as the Virginia Slims Championships.
The WTA Tour Championships are generally considered to be the fifth most prestigious event on the women's tour after the four Grand Slam tournaments.

The exceptions are the four grand slam tournaments, which always count toward the player's point total, even if their score in the slam is lower than another score achieved in a non-slam tournament.
In 1996, the WTA started awarding players "quality points", which were calculated based on the rankings of players they defeated in tournaments.
