Towers and buildings with masts on them (that are a hybrid) are in their own list.
There is often crossover in term usage as some skyscraper use the tower term, some towers use the mast term, and ironically 'skyscraper' has some word heritage from references to high sailboat masts.

The tallest antenna tower is the 940 ft (287 m) KREM (CBS-2) tower at Spokane.
The WVAH tower of 1551 ft (473 m) at Scott Depot collapsed around 10:15 am on February 19, 2003 due to excessive loading from ice during a winter storm.

You also indicate that WTXX was recently approached by the owner of a new tower that is located on Avon Mountain, approximately 9 miles from the CSM tower, but that these negotiations are preliminary.
WTIC's digital signal is schedule to be on the air by June 2003.
Also, CPTV has a note on their web site that states they are in the process of upgrading the equipment for WEDW Channel 49 to allow transmission of a digital signal and they hope to have the full digital conversion for the Bridgeport area completed by September.

WTIC first went on the air February 10, 1925 broadcasting classical music from a studio on the sixth floor of the Travelers Building on Grove Street, across from Travelers Tower.
WTIC FM is a modern adult contemporary station.

There are a few that seem to include the one WFSB uses for HDTV in Avon and also 2 very tall towers south of these, one of which is probably the Rattlesnake Mtn tower in Farmington, which is (or will be) the home of several other CT HDTV antennas.
One tower seems to be a little east of the other and at night has white strobe-like lights along it's full height.
There are two towers on Rattlesnake MT and one is taller than the other.

Musical programs, both vocal and instrumental, as well as addresses on timely subjects and sermons, are being received daily and all the big sporting events are now broadcast.
The radio fans of Meriden have not looked forward to any program with the universal interest being taken in the "Meriden Night" program to be broadcast from station WTIC of the Travelers insurance company of Hartford tonight.

It's the original 1929 structure, a massive brick building that could be mistaken for a church or a school if not for all the towers surrounding it.
WTIC had been fighting for a TV allocation for more than a decade.
That tower, though not shown here, still stands and is still home to channel 18, which was recently reborn under the WUVN calls and will soon be a Univision affiliate.

When we left you last week, we were near the end of a long day of Dallas tower hunting that included visits to Cedar Hill, home of most of the market's FM and TV signals, as well as 61-kilowatt high school station KEOM and the 12 towers of the KFXR 1190 night site.
But we still have more towers to see before this day is through, so we head east again on Texas 183, past DFW airport and right to the Dallas/Tarrant county line to see what's happened to that 1540 signal that wasn't down in Kennedale anymore.
WTIC is one of the more than a dozen Tower Site images featured in the 2003 Tower Site Calendar, coming this fall from Tower Site of the Week and fybush.com.

I'm no tower engineer, but it doesn't look like it would support much.
The NECRAT (main page) is awesome (if you like looking at towers, as I do).
Due to tower permit problems WTXX is at least 9 months away from digital signals.

WNEZ, the former WRCQ and long-time co-owned with WRCH (FM), is gone from the Farmington location at least since it was sold to Mega, although, of course, its four towers are still there.
Reminds me: Let's anticipate FM and TV in 1929-30 by buying a great piece of land on top of a very rocky ridge and putting our AM towers there, so we'll have a very bad groundwave signal.
But this is the second time in the past couple years that WTIC (AM) has been off the air for more than hour in prime time/drivetime in the afternoon.

 NorthEast Radio Watch by Scott Fybush
Bob Steele came to WTIC in Hartford in 1936, as a junior announcer fresh from the motorcycle-racing circuit, where he had announced the races at a local arena (and, earlier, on KGFJ in Los Angeles.)
Within a few months, Steele was announcing sports broadcasts on WTIC - and in 1943, he took over the "Morning Watch" show.
Before long, "Morning Watch" became the Bob Steele Show, and Steele became a WTIC institution, waking up generations of Nutmeggers with the "Word for the Day," birthday announcements, and general good humor until his retirement from daily broadcasting in 1991.

The recording was made by holding the mouthpiece of the Ediphone to a speaker that was wired to an air monitor.
The original recording was transferred from the wax cylinders at some point by the WTIC staff to 78rpm transcription disks, which were the source of this recording.
Some WTIC employees that were at the station in the 1920's were still working at the station or recently retired in 1965 and are interviewed.
