WTOP, the area's all-news station, will be moving to 103.5 FM as of today as part of a major radio shake-up, owner Bonneville International announced today.
In addition, WTOP is pairing with the Washington Post to launch a new station broadcast on 1500 AM and 107.7 FM starting in late March.
"WTOP has been the source for news and information in emergencies like the 9/11 terrorist attacks as well as threatening weather, school closings, and traffic for the community," according to Joel Oxley, Bonneville's senior vice president.

WTOP - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Simulcasts of WTOP on its former frequencies, AM 1500 kHz WTWP from Washington, FM 107.7 MHz WTWP-FM from Warrenton, Virginia, and low-power FM translator W282BA 104.3 FM from Leesburg, Virginia terminated on March 30, 2006.
The frequencies long-used by WTOP, 1500 kHz and 107.7 MHz (and the low-powered 104.3 FM translator in Leesburg), were reassigned to a new station, "Washington Post Radio," which launched on March 30, 2006.
WTOP's original callsign was WJSV; it was changed to WTOP because its then-primary frequency 1500 kHz was at the "top" of the mediumwave AM band.

These obligations differ from the general fairness requirement that issues be presented and presented with coverage of competing views, in that the broadcaster does not have the option of presenting the attacked party's side himself or choosing a third party to present that side.
Inasmuch as WTOP appears to have presented "representative community views" on the issues here in question, we find that it has not acted contrary to the principles laid down in Red Lion.
