WTVT - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
WTVT is an atypical FOX station as it focuses on news coverage and not off-network sitcoms and syndicated shows like many other FOX stations.
In 1958, WTVT became the second station in the country to introduce daily editorials, and the first Florida station to run an hour-long news block: 45 minutes of local news combined with the then-15-minute CBS Evening News.
WTVT began to adopt its current logo, which is similar to that of the Fox News Channel, in December 2005 as part of a new 11:00 newscast, although it did not completely switch to it until February 2006.

 Monsanto rBGH
That, according to Florida TV station WTVT, was why it hired the husband-and-wife team with much fanfare in November 1996 to head the station's news investigative unit.
In a news release, WTVT has attributed the firings to "journalistic differences" that "could not be resolved despite the station's extraordinary efforts to complete this story.
In court filings, WTVT says that its "editorial discretion and judgment should not and cannot be the subject of second-guessing by a judge or jury, consistent with the First Amendment."

Akre and Wilson were convinced that a frightened and intimidated WTVT was forcing them to make misleading alterations and gut their stories to protect Monsanto.
At the end of 1997, WTVT terminated Akre's and Wilson's contracts and the two filed a novel, and for journalists unprecedented, lawsuit against the station.
A month after Akre and Wilson filed their suit, WTVT did broadcast what seemed to this observer to be a strong and effective three-part investigative series on the subject, produced by a different reporter, Nathan Lang.

WTVT officials denied the couple's claims, issuing a two-page news release that said, in part, "The station categorically denies that it ever asked Wilson or Akre to include false information in the piece.
The couple maintains WTVT eventually fired them for fighting attempts to water down the stories, which repeated criticism of the rBGH product Posilac and cited concerns from some experts that milk from such cows raises risks for breast cancer, colon cancer and tumors in women who breast-feed.
The couple's lawsuit maintains WTVT executives and a Fox network attorney encouraged inclusion of statements from Monsanto representatives that the reporters knew were false and later offered to pay their salaries for the balance of their two-year contracts -- an amount topping $120,000 -- to buy their silence on the issue.

A WTVT lawyer, Greg Jones, testified in the last week that at least two station news executives had become concerned over the originality of the Wilson-Akre report after the first draft was submitted in February 1997.
