WUXGA - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
WUXGA stands for Widescreen Ultra eXtended Graphics Array and is a display resolution of 1920×1200 pixels with a 16:10 screen aspect ratio.
It is a wide version of UXGA, and is appropriate for viewing North American HDTV content (ATSC), which uses a 1920×1080 image at a 16:9 ratio (the image is slightly letterboxed, but maintains an appropriate aspect ratio).
Dell sells the XPS M170, Inspiron 9300 and Inspiron 9400 laptops which all have a 17" WUXGA+ UltraSharp Widescreen.

 [H]ard|Forum - WUXGA on a 15.4" - Is it too much?
I can't decide between the SXGA+ or the WUXGA on a 15.4".
It's funny how people say that 1600x1200 on a 20" screen is too small, but rave about 1280x800 on a 15.4" screen.
If I could just see one in the store or something, or a good closeup picture of someone's UXGA on a 15, my life would be easier.

If you're a movie fanatic who wishes you could watch that great DVD collection while on the road/plane/lunch break then you may want to take a look at laptop computers with this type of screen.
There are variations on this such as WSXGA or WUXGA which are wide screen versions of the higher resolution modes.
This is featured on mainly high end laptops which have medium to large screens (15.4 inch or greater).

WUXGA LCDs are the highest resolution panels available in the market today.
These displays use an industry-standard process that applies a textured coating to the inside of the polarizer to reduce glare and improve light distribution.
The WUXGA panel offers nearly twice as many pixels as a WXGA panel [1.3MPixels vs 2.4MPixels].

I was looking at XPS Gen 2's and they have WXGA and WUXGA, or something like that.
WUXGA sounds nice, although I'm worried about things being too small.
Anyway my laptop has WUXGA with native resolution of 1920x1200, here's a screenshot of my desktop just to show how big everything is. I run it at 120dpi and I don't think it is too small, but you can always switch it to 92 or whatever you prefer.

CGTalk - WUXGA, WSXGA+ or WXGA
You're right, having a large resolution does give you more space but I'm afraid that the WUXGA would be just too much for a 15.4 screen.
On the other hand, when considering the WUXGA resolution do bare in mind whether the graphics card you are getting with that laptop can support the WUXGA resolutions during game playback.
If you cannot play any games on the native WUXGA resolution and you have to lower the resolution in order to get a decent framerate then whats the point in getting it anyways (if you're much more into games rather than 3D applications that was).

I will also add, I was never interested in the idea of using a laptop screen for a project, nor the use of any other "bare" LCD's with seperate controller, due to the unnecessary hassle involved.
Any distortion that the 15" lens make won't be any worse with a WUXGA panel than it would be with a XGA panel.
Now, with the WUXGA kit, I know no one wants to spend $620 bucks to find out if the thing is good etc. Instead, I will try to gather some people together to split the initial $800 dollar test kit cost.
