Unreal Aircraft - Post-WW2 British aircraft gallery
Designed by John Digby, it was a large aircraft because of the large engine (24 cylinders) and the intention to fit a turboprop at a later date.
This involved removing the undercarriage and the aircraft landed by bouncing down onto the rubberised flight-deck.
The Royal Navy obtained 402 aircraft under the Lend-Lease scheme, 832 Squadron of the Fleet Air Arm was the first to be equipped with them in early January 1943.

By 1940, total production had arisen by more than 75 percent; heavy industrial production by almost 500 percent; and 17 percent of Japan's total output was being devoted to direct war purposes and expansion of her munition industries, as against 2.6 percent at that time in the United States.
The share of the gross national product devoted to direct war and munitions expenditures increased from 23 percent in 1941 to 31 percent in 1942, 42 percent in 1943 and 52 percent in 1944.
Aircraft production of all types, including training planes, was stepped up from 700 planes per month in the summer of 1942 to 2,572 planes in September 1944.

More than 5,000 were built in Russia until 1960 when production of the aircraft was transferred to Poland.
Production continued there, without any significant changes in the design, until 1992 when the last major contract was completed.

The aircraft was powered by Bristol Pegasus XX engines, had redesigned cockpit and twin vertical stabilizers in place of a single one to improve the rear field of fire.
During the same year this aircraft was shown in Paris and in the meantime a flight of 2 Łoś A’s and 1 Łoś Abis was demonstrated in Bulgaria.
Repairs of damaged aircraft were not possible since the ground crews did not have all the essential equipment and battle worthiness was further affected by the fact that most of the aircraft were not fully equipped (radio, compass, etc.).

Kill claims are almost invariably too high: Repeated firing on the same aircraft, the confusion of a fast-moving battle, overestimation of damage done to the enemy, and over-confidence of the pilots usually produce estimates which are at least a factor two too high.

PZL P.37 - Polish Aviation History Page
In December 1938 PZL began moving the production of the remaining aircraft to a new factory in Mielec, and as the result of consequent delays only 90 aircraft were accepted by the Air Force till 1st September 1939.
Of these, 36 aircraft, not all of them fully equipped, became part of the Bomber Brigade and were responsible for a large proportion of the damage inflicted by the Brigade on German Panzers.
Another 10 aircraft were received as replacements, while most other P.37s - in training centers and at Malaszewicze air base, where a bomber wing was being formed - were destroyed on the ground, either during fighting, or by Polish personnel - to prevent them from falling into German hands.

The stopping of developments was only to devote more attention on current fighter production was illogical given the low production rates were due not to a lack of the ability to produce but instead to a lack of initiative as previously shown.

Despite the growing successes with the revised Manchester, the advantages of switching production to the new four engined version, now named the Lancaster, were clearly obvious and production was ceased after only 200 of the original order for 1200 were produced.

Fourays - The Australian Army Aviation Association Inc
There's many aircraft that have been on the cutting edge of technology and were the best of their type at the time, however unless circumstances allowed these aircraft to demonstrate their capability, this alone doesn't seem to be enough to bestow greatness on the design.
Perhaps being one of the most graceful aircraft ever flown is sufficient to earn the title, although aesthetics alone shouldn't be the primary criteria.
So in this series when we compare aircraft, it isn’t our intention to suggest that one is “greater” than another, simply because it flew faster, further or carried a heavier bomb load or shot down more of its opponents than any other type.
