		When WWDJ started, it looked like it would fill the AM gap left by the demise of WMCA and in many ways it was (especially to those who only had AM in their cars).
		WWDJ became a religious station on April 1, 1974.
		I recall the studios of WWDJ as a place that we as college students were able to go visit almost anytime.

		The predecessor to WWDJ, WAAT, was first licensed to radio pioneer Frank V. Bremer in 1926, although Bremer had been broadcasting since 1920 or earlier.
		A rock format was adopted in 1970, surviving a 1971 sale and May 17, 1971 call change to WWDJ and lasting until 1974, when a religious format was introduced.
		WWDJ was sold to its current owner in 1994.

		The station was sold to Pacific and Southern Broadcasting in 1971, and became 970 WWDJ, known on the air as "97-DJ".
		The Top 40 format did okay for a while, but was hampered by a directional signal that covered Manhattan and parts of New Jersey well but suffered in the rest of the Five Boroughs and was virtually nonexistent on Long Island.

		I'm not sure a new format is such a slam-dunk certainty.
		In today's noisy RF environment, an upgrade from 5 to 50 kW at a regional-channel station like WWDJ (or WKDM, or WADO, or WWRL) still doesn't create a major signal in the way that WABC, WOR, WNBC et al once were.
		All it really does is to restore some vestige of the coverage the station once had before all those new sources of interference showed up in the 80s and 90s.

		That said, after listening and producing it for exhibit, KKDJ sounds like a complete rip-off of WWDJ Hackensack NJ.
		Just FYI, WWDJ (New Jersey) was owned by Pacific and Southern (also owners of KKDJ).
		They purchased WWDJ after KKDJ, and sent Rick Carroll to NJ for a couple of weeks to implement the format on WWDJ.
