Despite the lack of a castle, this is a beautiful and unique spot.
WWT has had great support from other donors such as Ulster Garden Villages, Environment and Heritage Service and Ards Borough Council.
A further £300,000 is required to meet the sum that WWT is committed to contributing to the project.

A major revamp of the 'Pond Room' was also sponsored – this is an education building which has benefited from new carpeting, lighting, seating and tables, a video projector system plus a wetland mural.

It provides an overwintering site for almost the entire population of Pale-bellied Brent Geese.The "Castle" which gave the reserve its name no longer exists.
In addition to the reserve the site contains a Coffee shop, gift and book shop, an exhibition area, hides, woodland walks, guided walks for groups (by prior arrangement), events and activities, free parking, and a picnic area.
However dogs are not allowed in WWT Centres except guide dogs.

SPECIAL MARS EVENTS: Please note particularly the special events at Carnfunnock Country Park, A2 N of Larne, on 6 September, and at WWT, Castle Espie, near Comber, on 13 and 14 September, all from 8 to late.
These dates were chosen to give the best chance of observing Mars while it is still big and close, and yet high enough in the sky for reasonable views before midnight.

The IAA observing and planetarium evening at WWT, Castle Espie, near Comber, on Saturday night was a great success!
But we also had showers so it was just as well that we had the amazing and indefatigable Robert Hill with the mobile Planetarium who did 4 shows on the trot to full houses, and our own IAA 'Ulsternaut' Derek Heatly, who did 3 presentations in a row on his past and planned space exploits.
So in spite of the cloudy sky at times, all seemed highly satisfied with a good evening.

The indefatigable, informative, energetic & entertaining Robert Hill will be doing his usual shows in the portable planetarium; Derek Heatly, the IAA's own 'Ulsternaut' will be talking about his upcoming flight into space; and we'll have other talks, exhibition material etc as usual.
