	WYNY (New York) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		WYNY was the call letters of radio stations on three different FM frequencies in or around New York City.
		The WYNY call letters are popularly associated with country music radio stations in New York (although for the first ten years WYNY was actually an adult contemporary station).
		As WYNY barely reached New York City and had no signal to the south or east, Big City simulcast the programming on a station on the New Jersey Shore, licensed to Long Branch which was named WWZY and was also on the 107.1 frequency.

		The new WYNY was actually an amalgam of four small suburban transmitters in Stroudsburg, Pa., Long Branch, N.J., Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., and eastern Long Island, all broadcasting on 107.1.
		The result was an uneven and hard-to-hold signal that was particularly elusive in New York City; WYNY dropped from the 3.5 percent share of the New York market it had enjoyed at its peak in the 90's to 1.2 percent in early 2001.
		Kerr is among the former WYNY disk jockeys who now has a country show on Sirius, and he's hopeful that the new technology will achieve the kind of penetration that will let it reach New York's country fans — largely because he has tossed in the towel on New York country radio.

		Still Dan Daniel (who left WYNY in the mid-80's and actually returned), Randy Davis, Carol Mason, Lisa Taylor, Floyd Wright, and others survived the format change and remained with WYNY's Country unit long after it would leave 97.1 FM and move over to 103.5 until its 1996 demise.

		With the publicly known flip of WHN from Country to All-Sports as WFAN taking place on July 1, 1987, it was known that there would be a void for country music in the New York Metropolitan Area.
		WYNY, was one of four AC stations targeting the same audience.
		Although Dan Daniel did make the move over to do mornings and later afternoons, WYNY’s future was not meant to be at 97.1 as the station moved to 103.5 in 1988.
