Wabaunsee County (standard abbreviation: WB) is a county located in the U.S. state of Kansas.
The county along with Shawnee, Jackson, Jefferson, and Osage counties is included in the Topeka Metropolitan Statistical Area, which has an estimated population of 226,268 in the year 2003.
In the county the population was spread out with 26.70% under the age of 18, 6.20% from 18 to 24, 26.70% from 25 to 44, 24.80% from 45 to 64, and 15.60% who were 65 years of age or older.

Wabaunsee County is located abut midway between the north and south lines of the State, and about seventy-five miles west of the Missouri River.
The county is bounded on the north by the Kansas River, on the south by Lyon County, on the east by Shawnee County, and on the west by Morris County and a portion of Morris and Riley Counties.
The water courses by which the county is meandered are numerous, all of which are denominated creeks, and to each of which is given a particular name.

The land is described in the government and county surveys as "bottom land, 31%; upland, 69%; forest 8%; prairie, 92%." Lake Shawnee, a man made lake, is the largest body of water within the county.
In the county the population was spread out with 25.30% under the age of 18, 8.80% from 18 to 24, 28.40% from 25 to 44, 23.70% from 45 to 64, and 13.70% who were 65 years of age or older.

His pens are the choicest in the Yards, being in the immediate vicinity of five different scales; direct chutes and viaducts to his pens from the loading tracks, and well-divided and sufficient pen-room, all of which are large factors in the proper handling of live stock to secure good fills, quick sales, and immediate weigh-ups.

In 1855, Richardson County was formed adjoining and west of Shawnee county in Eastern Kansas.
Four years and marginal boundary changes later, Richardson was changed to Wabaunsee in honor of Wah-bahn-se, the Warrior Chief of the Pottawatamie Tribe.
