Produced by the Wachowski brothers (masters of the Matrices), and starring Natalie Portman and a fully masked Hugo Weaving, "Vendetta" tells the story of a near-future dystopia, where a lone freedom fighter named V (Weaving) plots a series of revolutionary bombings to bring down a shady, secretly policed government.

HOLLYWOOD -- The Wachowski brothers were seated at a restaurant table in a Sunset Strip hotel the other morning, drinking cup after cup of coffee and claiming, with some nervousness, that their new high-tech, big-budget film, "The Matrix," could ignite or doom their careers.
Their film, which was almost as risky for its studio, Warner Brothers, as it was for the friendly and low-key Wachowski brothers, was No. 1 around the nation.
For "The Matrix" the Wachowski brothers studied the work of directors as varied as John Woo and other Hong Kong filmmakers, Stanley Kubrick, John Huston, Billy Wilder, Ridley Scott, George Lucas and Fritz Lang.

Film Roar: Wachowski Brothers: Artists or plagiarists?
I found an article explaining that Sophia Stewart has won a court case for $2.5 billion in damages from The Matrix trilogy and The Terminator trilogy both of which she claims were her original ideas.
In an interview Stewart goes as far as saying that the reason The Matrix Reloaded (2003) bombed after the original movie's success is that the Wachowskis tried their hand at original work for the second and then went back to stealing her ideas for The Matrix Revolutions (2003).
Actually, the Wachowski bros plundered Grant Morrison's "Invisibles" comic book series before they lifted anyone's scrip -- Grant tried to file a lawsuit when the film was released, but unfortunately, the publishing company of the book is owned by the same parent company as the film, so nothing came of it.

UGO Screenwriter's Voice - Screenwriting - Script Review by Justin Clark -- Plastic Man by The Wachowski Brothers
The Wachowski Brothers' take on Plastic Man isn't perfect by a stretch (your pity laughter is welcome here), but its inherent charm, sense of fun and goofball humor far outweigh the flaws.
The script does fall victim at first to the Wachowskis' intelligence: they've obviously done their homework about the technology in question, and try to explain what happens in a bit more detail than the rather flimsy main plot can sustain.
The tightness of this group allows the Wachowskis to stay focused, and not spend too much time away from what matters, which is the chase.

The Wachowski Brothers' sophomore directing debut (after 1996's fabulous "Bound"), "The Matrix," is a very clever sci-fi film, but perhaps not in the way you might expect.
Apparently, as hints of their desperation to brainwash its audience about its so-called inventiveness, or lack thereof, the Wachowski Brothers have actually decided to bombard us with cross references to other past works of film and literature (namely "Alice in Wonderland" and "The Wizard of Oz").

Apparently, the Wachowskis are planning on updating the novel with a more modern setting involving a corporate espionage storyline.
