  Comedy Films
Comedies usually come in two general formats: comedian-led (with well-timed gags, jokes, or sketches) and situation-comedies that are told within a narrative.
It was typical of the films of Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello, W. Fields, The Three Stooges, the stunts of Harold Lloyd in Safety Last (1923), and Mack Sennett's silent era shorts (for example, the Keystone Kops).
Screwball comedies, a sub-genre of romantic comedy films, was predominant from the mid-1930s to the mid-1940s.

Wacky Comedy film   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
The wacky comedy has its roots in the low-brow popular stage, namely the circus, minstrel shows, the traveling medicine and Western shows, vaudeville, burlesque, and the music hall.
Thus, the 1970s became the Golden Age of Anarchic Comedy; as American society spiraled out-of-control and the populace lost faith in the hypocrisies of the government and the church, the general public embraced a style of comedy that wasn't afraid to bite the hand that fed it.
The surreal stylings of humor that mark the wacky comedy still reigned supreme in the comedy of the '90s; as long as there are sacred cows to be mocked and ridiculed, the subgenre will continue to live long and prosper well into the millennium.

Wacky, a bland, mostly irritating comedy from newbie director Kim Dong-Wook.
To its credit, the film improves considerably in its second half, but by that time, some will likely find that it's a case of too little, too late.
Wacky is more or less paint-by-numbers stuff, but the people behind the camera can't seem to get the colors right.

 THE KING OF COMEDY
THE KING OF COMEDY was Scorsese and De Niro's fourth film together and their first and only comic collaboration, which is a real shame considering De Niro has recently been showing a real talent for comedy.
This film is, of course, given who's behind the camera, more on the dark and twisted end of the comic spectrum, but is very funny nonetheless.
I saw this film for the first time several years ago and it struck me as one of those movies that should be more popular than it is.

Gibson's film does not seem to care about Jesus the man and Biblical figure and instead seems distastefully preoccupied with the endless (and I mean endless) scenes of maddening, barbaric, tortuous and gory footage of him being beating, whipped, punched, kicked, spat on, impaled, ripped apart...and so on and so on.

The multicultural environment of the film is a winner -- there are plenty of different kinds of people to be amused by -- although generally the characters are deadlocked into their stereotypes.

Slapstick   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-07)
Though the term is often used pejoratively, the performance of slapstick comedy, based on exquisite timing and unerring calculation of execution, character reaction and audience laughter, is considered among the more difficult tasks facing a live performer.
While the Object from which we derive the modern term dates from the Renaissance, theatre historians argue that slapstick comedy has been at least somewhat present in almost all comedic genres since the rejuvination of theatre in church liturgical dramas in the middle ages.
Indeed, the uninterrupted modern presence of slapstick comedy--running in film from Buster Keaton to Mel Brooks to the Farrelly Brothers, and in live performance from Weber and Fields to Jackie Gleason to Rowan Atkinson--suggests it shall remain a part of the comedic landscape.
