The acacia tree - with its chestnut-colored twisted trunk and glossy dark green leaves - is a native of the Wadi Araba in Palestine.
Even at the end of a hot and arduous Araba summer, the acacia remains green; each tree is a tiny oasis capable of nourishing ibex, deer, hyraxes, and even domesticated animals such as camels and goats.
It was concluded that the Araba acacias are dependent upon surface runoff, a hypothesis proven by examining a tree's growth rate when measured against the amount of yearly rainfall.

Specimens at the JUMNH were obtained from Wadi Rum in 1979, Wadi Finan in 1981, and Al-Reishah in 1986 (Amr and Disi, 1988).
It seems that in Jordan the animal’s population is declining and restricted to the rocky mountains to the north.
This is based on the lack of specimens or field observations from the Mediterranean mountains or plains near Wadi as Sir and its vicinity, from where Nehring (1902) described this subspecies.

A flock of 55 Black Storks Ciconia nigra in Wadi Araba on 19 March 2004 was large and rather early.
A pair of Thick-billed Lark Ramphocoris clotbey at Wadi Araba on 19 March 2004 was unusual.
A Desert Warbler Sylvia nana was at Wadi Araba on 19 and 26 March and another was at Shaumari Wildlife Reserve on 8 April 2004.

MUTAH (JT) — Approximately 13.5 per cent of Wadi Araba village residents live in abject poverty, with some 30 per cent living in absolute poverty and 38.8 per cent of all families living below the poverty line, receiving some JD100 as a monthly income, according to a recent survey.
The survey, carried out by Saleh Kasasbeh, from Muta University's geography department, examined the situations of residents in the villages of Risheh, Qreiqreh, Rahmeh, Bier Mazkour and Qatar, situated in the southern portion of Wadi Araba.
According to the survey, 26.8 per cent of people over the age of 15 are unemployed (compared to the 14.7 per cent of country average).

The Wadi Araba fault (WAF) is one of the main strike-slip faults in the Dead Sea Transform plate boundary, which separates the Arabian plate on the east from the Sinai subplate on the west.
Structural orientation data were collected from slickenside striations on the fault plane exposed in the area of the intersection of the NE-trending, strike-slip WAF and the dip-slip Khunayzira at the south end of the Dead Sea basin.
These slickenlines are best observed in the polished pebbles of the upper Pleistocene conglomerates exposed within the deep incisions of the Wadi Khunayzira and Wadi An Nakhbar streams and provide evidence for multiple faulting mechanisms.
