Wadi Qelt (also spelled Qilt; Kelt) is a long canyon stretching from the spring of Ein Farah, south of the Jerusalem suburb of Anata, down to Jericho in the east.
"Wadi" is Arabic for a creek bed or ravine, and the high, sheer rock walls carve a deep crevice in the Judean Hills east of the Holy City.
In Jesus' day, the Wadi Qelt was the last leg of the pilgrim route for those coming from the Galilee to Jerusalem via the Jordan River Valley for the great feasts of Passover, Pentecost (or Feast of Weeks or first-fruits, the celebration of the wheat-harvest) and Tabernacles (or ingathering).

In the final scene of the short film "By Way of the Wadi," there are long moments when one hears the water flowing through Wadi Kelt.
The scene is a song of praise for Creation, for nature, life and vitality, which ostensibly stands in total contradiction to the subject of the film: a journey by the filmmaker, Bilha Bachrach, to the site were her son Ehud and his friend Uri Shahor were shot and killed in a terror attack.
Bachrach advances, step by step, through the wadi, taking in the final sights that Ehud saw, talking with people who live in the wadi and with Keren, who was Ehud's girlfriend for a short period during the last months of his life.

The Wadi opens at the city of Jericho, (actually in the ruins of a palace of King Herod), which is 1300 feet below sea level and thought by many to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world.
