After the war, diplomatic relations with the new shogunate in Japan were established in 1607, and Busan Waegwan was permitted to be reconstructed.

I met a guy a couple of times at a Psycho, the foreigner bar in Gumi, and he is an American soldier who is stationed at Camp Carroll in Waegwan.
Waegwan is about a 10 minute train ride from Gumi heading South in the direction of Daegu.
I should admit that I didn't spend the weekend in Waegwan I actually only spent a Saturday exploring it with my new soldier friend but some how a title like "Saturday in Waegwan" just doesn't have the same ring to it as "Weekend in Waegwan" with its alliteration.

Two miles short of Waegwan the lead elements at 0900 turned off the main highway onto a poor secondary road which cut across country to a point three miles east of Waegwan, where it met the Waegwan-Tabu-dong road.
On 19 September Waegwan fell to the U.S. 5th Regimental Combat Team, and the ROK 1st Division in the mountains north of Taegu penetrated to points behind the enemy 1st and 13th Divisions' lines.

TAEGU, South Korea — Base leaders in South Korea are seeking closer links to the South Korean leaders who have helped protect their post in the wake of September’s terror attacks.
Officials at the Army’s Camp Carroll in Waegwan will hold a post tour Nov. 6 for local South Korean officials, including county and city heads, senior police and fire officials, and Korean National Police representatives.
Waegwan area national police officials and other local South Korean leaders are especially supportive to Camp Carroll following the terrorist strikes, said Army Col. Kevin M. Smith, commanding officer of the U.S. Army Materiel Support Center — Korea.

The Rev. Son Chi-hun, of the Order of St. Benedict Waegwan Abbey in Chilgok, North Kyongsang Province, told reporters in a press briefing in Seoul Wednesday that St. Ottilien Archabbey in Emming, southern Germany, gave the paintings back to its Korean branch in October last year.
The pieces are believed to have been taken to Germany in 1925 after Norbert Weber, a German monastery’s abbot, collected them during his travels around Korea.

 The Korean War: The UN Offensive
South of Waegwan, Hill 268 represented a critical terrain feature, for the main highway ran along the east bank of the Naktong River.
Following the air strikes, the 5th Regimental Combat Team again struck at the bunkers, where, in many cases, the North Koreans fought to the last man. By noon the 5th controlled both the summit and slopes of the position.
On 19 September the 5th Infantry’s 2d Battalion traversed the Naktong River, took Waegwan, moved through the town to the southwest slope of Hill 303, and secured the hill on the twentieth.
