After the State of Illinois purchased the land and restored the walls of the fort during the Great Depression (it was one of many WPA projects in the area,) it became a popular tourist attraction, and massively attended Rendezvous celebration sprung up at the beginning of every June.
The first state capitol of Illinois was in the Village of Kaskaskia, one of the oldest communities in the state.
Illinois entered the union in 1818, and her first capital was, of course, Kaskaskia.

The temperance movement had commenced in Illinois in the 1820's, and the Illinois legislature in 1838 had enacted a "local option" law, which empowered voters in particular comm unities to petition county officials to forbid the licensing of "groceries," in which liquor was sold in quantities of less than a quart.
Thus, in 1855 an Illinois proposal to prohibit the manufacture of spirits except for medical or sacerdotal purposes failed to pass, although the legislature did impose a licensing requ irement for dram shops, which sold liquor in small quantities.

Illinois is expected to follow the lead of 42 other states by passing new legislation requiring prospective teachers to specialize in middle-school education in college before they would be qualified to teach courses to fifth- through ninth-graders.
At present, only 10 percent of Illinois' middle-school teachers have this sort of preparation, says Jan Waggoner, an associate professor of curriculum and instruction at SIUC who is directing the project.
Waggoner has recruited 32 teaching professionals from eight area middle-grade schools, four community colleges, and six SIUC departments to answer that question.

A second tornado, identified as the Harvel, Illinois tornado, initially touched down approximately 2 miles north-northwest of Harvel Illinois or 3.5 miles south of the first tornado track between 710 and 715 PM CDT.
The strongest circulation noted with the center supercell was responsible for spawning the long-track tornado over the panhandle of Montgomery county Illinois.
One possible cause of the center storm becoming tornadic was due to outflow boundary interaction with the rear flank of this storm.
