  Wah Wah Pedal article
Wah pedals are enjoying a new resurgence, so I decided to write an article on them.
I want to mention that the tone of your individual wah may be adjusted to your personal taste by simply pulling back the rubber retaining loop which applies pressure to the shaft and rotating the pot to change where the shaft engages the pot.
The final pedal I wish to discuss is the CryBaby with the reddish brown circular inductor.

  Budda Bud-Wah Pedal, a Great Wah-Wah Pedal
For example, take the loading and muddiness of the signal when the wah has been by-passed, the narrow frequency range and the use of sub standard parts for assembly.
Analyzing the original "Fasel" inductor was the first measure taken to obtain the tonal sweep that made the original Vox wah the tool that it was.
The next step was to conquer the tonal loss and muddiness that occurs when you by-passed the wah.

Wah Pedal Mounting Plates - Dunlop, RMC's, Vox, Budda and others.
If you use a wah or other pedal that has the outer enclosure designed like the Dunlop Cry Baby, including Budda, Vox, RMC or other wah's, we offer handy replacement backing plates for them.
The top picture to the left shows an RMC wah with a mounting plate installed on it's bottom and another mounting plate leaning against the wah.
These wahs have the following features: The top rubber pad is smooth foam (no lines), has a lightweight unpainted aluminum body with a white to copper looking sandblasted finish and the base plate is heavier with a slight gold tone appearance.

 The Technology of Wah Pedals
The first transistor is a block of gain to give you an active resonance, the wah pot and second transistor modulate the effective capacitance in a resonant circuit composed of the inductor and the variable capacitor.
If we were to put a second winding on a wah inductor, we could force DC through it from a current source circuit, which would force the "center" of the magnetic operation toward one or the other saturation points.
This means that the wah pedal input loads down the guitar signal, and worse, loads it more at treble frequencies than at bass frequencies.

 The Technology of Wah Pedals
The original was the Vox style inductor based wah circuit, followed by others, most notably the twin-T circuit, the multiple feedback opamp active filter circuit, and most elaborate of all, the "state variable" style circuit used in the Mutron 3.

 The Wahwactor: a voice-controlled wah-wah pedal
A wah-wah guitar pedal contains a resonant bandpass filter with a variable center frequency that is changed by moving the pedal back and forth with your foot.
We believe this is mainly due to the fact it takes much more time and practice to learn how to tap with your feet than to learn how to tap using your voice, not only physically but also because of psychomotor considerations.
Further work includes reducing the latency (which actually is approximately 10 ms for sound I/O using ASIO drivers and 24 ms due to the analysis hop size), taking care of background noise to make it more robust in a real live music performance environment, and applying different mappings at different pitches.

Wah Pedal Lesson at Access Rock
There are many pedal effects that changed the sound of rock and roll.
The first wah-wah pedals were very simple devices which had transistors, resistors, and a potentiometer (pot).
When the pedal is moved back and forth, the inside of the pot moves just like a volume pot or tone pot does on your guitar.

The pedal’s inductor has undergone a redesign to be closer in specification to the original VOX wah inductors, for improved dynamics and tone.

Although the wah has been with us for many a year, the newer designs have not addressed some of the problems inherent with the older circuitry.
Budda's design offers a frequency band that has the mid range honk and top end boost of a vintage pedal without the harshness.
By implementing a "hardwire bypass" modification, the Budda Bud-Wah eliminates the wah completely from the circuit so that you retain your amp's and guitar's true tonal characteristics.

The real ones are featured on many recordings, the current GCB95 pedal comes with a very weak (underwound) inductor, a nasty tone sucking input buffer and a pot that really doesn't sweep like the old pedals.
