The unholy troika of Shiite Qom, Wahabbi Alqaeda and Allawite Syria have buried their dissimilarities for their own continued existence; they very well realize that the new emerging "waft of freedom" in the Middle east will mark the first victims and they shall be nothing but the aged "tyrannies" of the region.
Wahabbis, who financially bankrolled the internecine Iraqi war in the 80's on Iran through their proxies, have now in the face of this "waft of freedom" donned new colors.
Instead of deciding on the puritanical nature of revolution of Khomeini and Wahabb that was at the root of the Iraqi imposed war, they have now decided to mutually cooperate with the "ex-ideological devil" to defeat the common enemy of the "waft of freedom" raising its ugly head in the heart of the Islamic world.

Former leader of the local wahabbis, Achemez Gochiaev, is wanted for allegedly organizing the apartment bombings in Moscow and Volgodonsk in 1999.
According to the chief prosecutor, Gochiaev's accomplice and Karachai "wahabbi", Nikolai Kitkeev, escorted the suicide bomber to the Rizhskaya station area and died in the blast when the bomb accidentally detonated earlier than planned.

To gain political support, Saud mobilized the fanatical, ultra-religious Wahabbi movement – the same movement which is spiritually at the core of al Qaeda.
In Saudi Arabia, the Wahabbis consider themselves ultra-religious, but what really drives their passions is a deep sense of grievance and an underlying conviction that a return to spiritual purity will restore the lost power they believe once belonged to their forefathers.

WAHABBISM UNVEILED. The real truth about those Wahabbis!
It is the habit of the people of today that they label as anyone who calls to Tawheed and warns against all forms of shirk a Wahabbi.
So since this has become prominent amongst some of the Muslims, who call themselves Sunnis then we should refer back to the Qur'aan and the Sunnah upon the understanding of the first three generations in order to ascertain what is the truth.
The usage of 'Wahabbi' comes from a scholar who lived some time ago by the name of Muhammad Bin Abdul-Wahaab, who called to Tawheed and defended it and warned against Shirk and fought its people.

The bad news is that outside influences, mostly Wahabbis from Saudi Arabia, are trying to change the traditionally tolerant Malian Islam to a more severe or "fundamentalist" Islam.
This is even worse than the analogy Lewis posits because most of the areas of Wahabbi hegemony have no public school system, so the Wahabbi schools may be the only ones in existence.
This does not mean that those worshipping there are Wahabbi, just that the ownership of the mosque is. One worries that in desperately poor places such as Mali the money of the Saudi Wahabbis will have much influence, and undermine the noble experiment in democracy that Malians are attempting.

The Wahabbis have too rigorous a view of monotheism, tawheed, and, therefore, consider all expressions of reverence, which are directed towards beings other than God, a form of polytheism, shirk.
The Wahabbis are also militant traditionalists who consider everything that was not practiced during the time of the first two generations of Islam as innovation, bidd'aa and, therefore, must be forbidden.
The aim of Wahabbis is not without virtue, but this does not mean that others who disagree with them, on this or other matters, are wrong and, therefore, less monotheistic, mawahideen, than they are.

As a Christian fundamentalist in the modern, perjorative sense of the the word, ie one who takes the Bible on its own terms, I contend that Islam is in the midst of what Christianity went through in the sixteenth century.
