In a way they are trying buy face by financing Islamic growth, pity it's of the most extreme Wahhabist variety.
An example of such going ons is that mosque in London, where Al Qeada were known to have met, which has a extreme rabble rousing cleric, it turns out the Saudis had put a couple of million towards that mosque.
As far as I'm concerned the only 1st step for counter-acting 20 years of Wahhabist influence is stopping the flow of Saudi dollars into Islamic groups, institutions & mosques arround the world.
