Sent: Saturday, October 04, 2003 3:13 PM I was born in Waimate Hospital December 2, 1976, I am not sure but I may have been one of the last lots of babies born in the hospital.
My grandfather, Ron Manning, worked in the Waimate hospital around the time that I was born but I am not sure how long he actually worked there.
Waimate Hospital is closed, but a tortured spirit dwells within.

Te Waimate Mission House is the second oldest standing building in New Zealand, having been built in 1832.
As an experimental farm, Te Waimate was visited by many prominent people of the time including Charles Darwin (1809-1882), who eulogised that he had come across 'an English farm house and its well dressed fields, placed there as if by an enchanter's wand'.
Te Waimate Mission House is nationally significant as the second oldest building in the country, and the only survivor of the first inland mission station in New Zealand.

In 1870 a Captain Thomson brought several wallabies from Tasmania to Christchurch.
