Young people in the Waipa District aged between 13 and 19 years from 1 April 2002 to 31 March 2003 are eligible provided they have resided in the Waipa District for at least six months of that year.
Waipa District Council Mayor Alan Livingston believes the Awards are long overdue.
We have young adults excelling across the district, across the country, and on scholarships around the world – in arts, culture, study and sports.

Waipa District, in New Zealand's North Island, has a resident population of around 40,000 fairly evenly mixed between urban and rural, with the main urban populations centred in the towns of Te Awamutu, Cambridge and Pirongia.
Although landlocked, the District has several large hydro lakes used extensively for watersports and recreation, two major rivers, and many smaller peat lakes which are considered some of the best examples of their type worldwide.
Waipa District is also home to an international airport serving the Waikato region and nearby Hamilton City.

In 1994 the Waipa District Council and the Kiwanis Club of Te Awamutu agreed to develop the Council's newly acquired scenic reserve.
The bush was bought by the Waipa District Council from the Yarndley family, on whose dairy farm it stands, in 1992.
The Waipa District Council won an Environmental Awareness Award from Environment Waikato "for contribution to the enhancement and protection of the natural environment." The Kiwanis Club of Te Awamutu won an "Appreciation Award" from the Keep New Zealand Beautiful Society in recognition of our work on both the Yarndley's Bush and Ngaroto Lake Walkway projects.
