Topic: Waist level finder

photo.net Forum: Canon EOS5 Waist Level Finder
I have always enjoyed the waist level approach to photography offered by my Bronica, but as I am soon to be hitting the travel trails again I find I can not afford to carry the added weight of medium format.
Compared to the Angle Finder B (which is left over from the FD days) it is lighter, has greater eye relief, and incorporates a built-in 2.5x magnifier--great for critical focusing during macro work.
The new Angle Finder is the C, not the A2.

WLF & Magnifying heads for Pentacon Six mount cameras
This misnomer goes back to the days when cameras were routinely mounted on a tripod, which was presumably set at approximately waist level.
The Exakta 66 WLF is an improvement on the Pentacon Six model, although it does not offer a sports finder option.
If you are trying to follow a moving object, this WLF has the best “sports finder” of the lot: push in the front of the finder, and it will click into place.

 CameraHobby - Vignettes Misc. Gear
After years of using the waist level finder, I got use to the reverse lateral image which turned right to left and left to right.
Using a waist level finder means being stooped over the camera and less interaction with the subjects.
He let me look through the 45-degree finder and it was impressive to see such a large and clear view without having to stoop down, just a slight downward tilt of the head was required.

Leica FAQ - M Waist level finders?
In the 1930s and early 40s, Leica made a range of waist level finders for the LTM precursors to the M. Basically they were small (approx.
This was done to let you quickly level your camera by aligning the cross inside the circle when looking through the viewer.
Level Purists can additionally insert a spirit level into the later-model AUFSU rear accessory shoe - presumably the reason it was provided.

Leica Photography Forum: Waist Level Finder
As for the first question, don't forget, 6X6 cameras work with waist level viewing because there is no horizontal or vertical until after the shot is taken.
There was a Zeiss waist level finder also laterally correct and also a collectors items.
A waist-level finder, on the other hand, lets one pretend he is setting or checking the camera, and it's possible to walk and observe how the composition changes - something more of an impossibility with anything you put to your face, as well as shoot with one's arms outstretched high or low.

The Trent Photos - Joel Carpenter   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-24)
The waist-level finder is a small, crude assembly that is suitable for roughly framing objects like buildings or standing persons within a short distance from the camera.
It's been suggested that the waist-level finder is most likely the one that Trent used to target the UFO.
In addition, because of its cheap construction, the "boresight" of the waist-level finder is not exactly aligned with the axis of the main camera lens, at least on this particular example.

The finder can be interchanged, with other optional finders, to match shooting conditions to photographic conditions.
To attach the finder, align the front end of the finder with the front end of the finder frame on top of the camera main body, as shown.
The focusing hood of the waist-level finder is opened by pushing up on the focusing hood catch at the rear end of the folded waist-level finder.

 Waist Level vs. Eye Level
Eye level is more convenient as the image is the right way around (waist level is back to front), it's also easier for portrait shots.
I tend to use the waist level for tripod work, and low angle shots when you want to hold the camera down low and can't get to eye level.
I use the prism finder when handholding and walking around shooting candids at weddings, it feels more like an SLR especially with the speedgrip - it's alsdo good when you have the camera mounted high on a tripod and can't get your head over it.

Waist-level finders, and "spy finders" are neat accessories, but most subminis do not offer them.
If you check on e-bay, you can find pretty beat up kodak folders for about 5-8 bucks and the finders are pretty easy to remove.
In no time, you can have a waist-level finder and or a spy finder on just about any camera.

 CameraHobby - Bronica versus Hasselblad
Major differences between the B kit and the regular SQ-Ai pieces are the lack of contacts on the B body to couple to metered prisms.
The metered prism finders are very close to each other.

Discussions @ Nikonians - Waist Level Finder (Very Stupid Question)
The waist-level finder DW-30 is really intended for close-up, macro or astrophotography work.
