 Waitaki's Calcium Peptacan for joints makes Euro debut
New Zealand’s Waitaki Biosciences is affirming its position in the joint health market with the European launch of a new ingredient named Calcium Peptacan at HIE in Frankfurt this week.
It is an area Waitaki has not ignored in the past: regional export manager Steve Caulton told NutraIngredients.com that the company has previously offered crude cartiledge materials with collagen and chondroitin sulphate, but he described the new addition as “a particular molecule derived extracted from bovine cartilageĀ… a more sophisticated, refined, targeted ingredient”.
While the US is Waitaki's initial target with Calcium Peptacan, it is giving the ingredient its first European airing at HIE in order to gauge interest in an ingredient of this kind amongst manufacturers on this side of the Atlantic.

The Waitaki Catchment Water Allocation Board (WAB) released its Draft Water Allocation Regional Plan for public comment in February.
The council’s submission to the board focuses on concerns about higher power prices resulting from less storage in the Waitaki Valley hydro lakes during winter as well as its concerns over the reliability of water supply for irrigation in the future.
The Waitaki District Council is now responsibile for providing a comprehensive Community Group Directory, taking over from the Oamaru Citizens Advice Bureau who, for many years, have provided us with a valuable directory.

In August 1988 the Waitaki Catchment Board convened a public forum to consider the issues involved in setting a minimum flow for the Lower Waitaki River under Section 20J of the Water and Soil Conservation Act 1967.
The outcome was an agreement by all parties as to an appropriate setting of a minimum flow on an interim basis, and the establishment of a working party to initiate and oversee studies which would provide the information necessary to set a definitive minimum flow.
Other agreement was reached on the minimum flow regime, notification on expected flow in the Lower Waitaki and bi-annual meetings to discuss the operation of the agreement and any improvements/modifications required.

Sport Waitaki regional coordinator, Grahame Johnston, was pleased with the turnout.
Sport Waitaki is a joint venture between the Waitaki District Council, The Community Trust of Otago, Totara Hotels, and Sport Otago, and was established in December 2004 to increase participation levels and to develop effective sport and physical recreation systems in the Waitaki region.
Sport Waitaki is located in Community House on Thames Street (pictured below) where Mr Johnston is based to meet regional enquiries.

The Waitaki Catchment Water Allocation Plan was officially handed to Environment Minister Marian Hobbs today by the chair of the Waitaki Catchment Water Allocation Board Judge David Sheppard.
The Board revised the Waitaki Catchment Water Allocation Plan after considering 1197 submissions on its draft plan, and hearings in Oamaru and Omarama over six-weeks in June and July.
The Plan, to be implemented by the Canterbury Regional Council, also includes changes to the Otago Regional Council's water plan for the small part of the catchment that is in the Otago region.
