  Waiting for Guffman Movie Review
WAITING FOR GUFFMAN, a comedy from TAP alum Christopher Guest, is a more uneven effort, but it is at its funniest skewering small-town America in all its cockeyed optimism.
WAITING FOR GUFFMAN is set in fictional Blaine, Missouri, a peaceful little town preparing to celebrate its 150th birthday.
WAITING FOR GUFFMAN is occasionally sluggish through its middle half hour, and hardly the non-stop riot SPINAL TAP was; it also treats its characters with far more good-humored respect than you might expect.

 DVD Review: Waiting For Guffman
The success of "Show" also helped reel in new fans of Guest's "Waiting for Guffman", a 1997 independent feature that has been gaining an increasingly bigger cult fanbase since it was released into art-house theaters.
SOUND: "Waiting For Guffman" is presented in Dolby 2.0, although essentially this is a dialogue-driven, mono-ish presentation that really doesn't provide anything in the way of active or dynamic sound, nor do I think anyone is expecting much from the audio side of a production like this one.
Final Thoughts: "Guffman" fans will be pleased to find that Warner Brothers has provided an excellent DVD with audio/video quality that's as good as can be expected from the low-budget production, along with some decent extras.

While the entire cast, Corky included, pin their hopes of glamorous new careers on impressing Guffman, we chuckle again and again at the crystal clear fact that they don't stand a chance -- something each of them is blissfully oblivious to.

What’s funniest [and most frightening] about Waiting for Guffman is how authentic some of these characters seem – with all their quirks, neuroses, and delusions of grandeur, they’re weirdos, sure, but god, so familiar, like people we’ve met in real life [or at the very least, seen in real documentaries].
