Waitomo District Council chief executive David Jack delivered a strongly worded address in favour of amalgamating Waitomo and Otorohanga district councils and questioned the motives of those opposed to the idea.
Waitomo mayor Allan Andrews advised commissioners he had to leave the hearing early to attend y regional Civil Defence meeting that the Otorohanga mayor could not attend.
Waitomo District Council CEO David Jack and marketing strategist Megan Rose were also among those submitters who left the hearing shortly after presenting their submissions.

Waitomo mayor Allan Andrews started the debate by saying residents had the opportunity to discard the differences of the past and create a completely new organisation.
The commission came to the view that, because of the diversity of the district, effective representation of the various communities of interest could only be achieved through councillors being elected on a ward basis.
Otorohanga District Council general manager David Hall said ODC had treated Inframax dividends as income, although the council's financial analysis excluded the dividends from income.

This is the Mangawhitikau Cave in the Waitomo District and I'm floating on an underground river aboard a raft admiring constellations of the glow-worm kind.
He tells us that Waitomo's limestone was formed about 30 million years ago when the region was under the sea, and is composed from the bones and shells of billions of sea creatures.
The Waitomo Glow-worm Caves were acquired by the government in 1906, and in 1908 the Waitomo Caves Hotel was opened to establish tourism in the area.

Whangarei (the initial consonant is pronounced F as in fa-nga-ray) is the northernmost city in New Zealand and the regional capital of Northland Region.
Whangarei district includes the town of Hikurangi, and the suburbs of Kamo, Tikipunga, Whau Valley, Otangarei, Kensington, Regent, Maunu, Morningside, Raumanga, and Onerahi as well as a large amount of rural land, including beaches such as Ngunguru, game fishing mecca Tutukaka, and a variety of beaches along Whangarei Harbour.
The district extends as far south as Bream Bay, north towards the Cape Brett peninsula, and west almost to the Waipoua Forest.

The Waitomo Caves Museum Society (Inc) is a charitable society which was formed and incorporated in 1972, and for six years operated the original ‘Waitomo Museum of Caves’ from a small room in the historic Waitomo Caves Hotel, then managed by the Tourist Hotel Corporation.
In 1980 a purpose-built museum was erected on the present site in the centre of the Waitomo Caves village and was doubled in size in 1989, followed by the addition of an Education Centre in 1994.
The land upon which the Museum is situated belongs to the Tanetinorau Opataia Whanau Trust with whom the Museum maintains an on-going and close relationship.

 Matamata-Piako DC’s vehicle fleet tops Waikato region’s councils - Green Party
Matamata-Piako District Council has come out tops in the Waikato region in a Green Party national survey of the fuel efficiency of local body vehicle fleets.
The survey analysed a total of 4569 cars, utes, vans and SUVs operated by city, district and regional councils and worked out how much money and how many kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions could be saved if the councils’ fleets were the most fuel efficient available in each category.
Matamata-Piako District Council ranked 5th in the country, but it still had the potential to save an average of 669kg of carbon emissions and $341 in fuel costs each year for each of its 49 vehicles if it upgraded them to the most fuel efficient available.
