Waiuku is a distributing and servicing centre for a large dairy and mixed farming district.

At the recent Change of Officers dinner the Waiuku Lions, membership was increased with the addition of 9 new members.
The unusual twist to this is that all the new members were the wife’s of current or deceased members.
One of the new members, widow of Lion Bruce Handley, Daphne Handley, said that she looked forward to taking a batch of scones along to a working bee as this was something that she could do to fulfil her obligations as a member of the Waiuku Lions Club.

 Waiuku's Historic Treasures
Waiuku often referred to itself as "The Port of Franklin" as a steamer went three times a week to Onehunga and often as many as four scows were tied up at the nearby jetty.
Another building on the reserve is the Waiuku lock-up which was built in 1865 by the Waiuku Royal Cavalry Volunteer Corps and later taken over by the police.
Waiuku, just fifty minutes travelling time from Auckland and ninety from Hamilton, is an interesting destination for a day or week-end trip from these cities.

The Waiuku man is proposing an artificial reef be created at the northern end of Karioitahi Beach on the Awhitu Peninsula, south of the Manukau Heads.
He agreed that Waiuku did have some youth problems but said they were no worse than other places in New Zealand.
However one statistic he was not proud of was the Waiuku areaÂ’s drink:drive ratio, which was a thousand times higher than the national average.

The second man to appear in the court today is an 18-year-old who was arrested in connection with the death of Waiuku toddler Arwen Fletcher.
The 2-year-old girl was admitted to the Starship on March 15 with a fractured skull and other head injuries.
Mr Tims said the arrested man is also from Waiuku and is facing a murder charge.

 Waiuku B Grade - Club Report
The Waiuku Golf & Squash Clubs recent B grade event was by all accounts well recieved.
Due to the large numbers and having only three courts, games had to be played at the Franklin Squash Racquets Club in Pukekohe on the Friday night in order for the tournament to finish on time.
Other raffles for racquets, bags and safety eyewear were won by Rob McNab of Waiuku, Chris Tombleson of Franklin and Paula Thom of Franklin.
