Lemmings (video game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The popularity of the game on the Amiga led to its rapid porting to many other platforms, and is considered to be one of the most widely-ported video games of all time, together with Pac-Man and Tetris.
The game was released for Japan on March 9, 2006, for Europe on March 10, 2006, and for US/Canada on May 23, 2006.
The game was recently also announced for EyeToy - the basic change in the concept is that the player must stretch and use his/her limbs in the recorded picture to aid the lemmings.

It was first published in 1987 for the Atari ST by FTL Games and went on to become the ST's best selling product of all time, reaching an astounding market penetration of more than 50% of the Atari STs ever sold.
The game was also ported to PC, Apple IIGS, SNES, X68000, PC-9801 and FM Towns and translated from English into German, French, Japanese, Chinese and Korean.
It was retired directly from the top spot in the CGW game ratings as one of the original members of the CGW Hall of Fame in November 1989 after having spent almost a year in the top spot with no serious challenger.

In her editorial, entitled Computer Game Studies, Year One, Editor-in-Chief Espen Aarseth comments that Game Studies is the first journal of its kind focussed solely on computer games research.
Computers games, on the other hand, do not spring from an older medium with a rich theoretical framework.
He concludes that while computer games do share some of the same traits as narratives, due to the inherently interactive nature of computer games, narrative and interaction cannot exist at the same time and therefore computer games must negotiate a compromise between narrative and interactive elements.

 STAR WARS: Military Walkers
Walkers must have military value in relation to the other instruments of surface warfare such as repulsorcraft, artillery, infantry and support from fighters and warships in space.
On the other hand, human walker crews all carry the variety of minor neuroses and inspirations that are a natural part of being a living animal for at least two decades, and these personal differences, and manifestations of informed volition, may affect the combat reactions of each walker, making each one slightly unique.
Walker variants do exist, but as a general rule of thumb they should only share a name in cases where one could conceivably be made as a refit or minor modification of another.

OK, there is a game system in there that meshes well (rather like the way Empire simply 'works') but the games are so basic and Risk-like that I wonder quite where they have got their reputation.
The space exploration games look like they were devised by Carl Sagan with "billllliyuns and billllliyuns of bee-yings on multi-toodinous plan-etts" and the dungeon master clones probably have more detail in them than the whole range of Forgotten Realms RPG adventures available in paper format.

G13GAM -- Game Theory -- computer chess notes
A famous example was a case where the computer suddenly gave away a rook for absolutely no reason that the assembled grandmasters could see; after the game, they set the position back and made the computer play the `obviously' better move, and were surprised when the computer pointed out a beautiful forced mate.
In the final stages of a game of chess, there are often very few pieces on the board, and the number of configurations is small enough to allow exhaustive analysis and the construction of databases of the outcomes.
But the computer showed that the win was in fact very difficult; a computer can usually draw against anyone who has not made a special study of this ending.
