Walker Township is a civil township of Cheboygan County in the U.S. state of Michigan.

The Township of Walker began its proud history on December 30, 1837, with the passing of a public act by the Michigan State Legislature.
Although the Township officially began in late 1837, there are reports of eight families living on the Township land in 1837.
Walker settled on the east side of the Grand River, in late 1836, yet was involved in many community affairs as well as acting as a land agent for property on both sides of the river.

Walker was present at the surrender of Cornwallis at Yorktown at the close of the war.
Walker prospered as a farmer, and as his means increased, he invested in another farm on the east side of Troublesome Creek [presently the home of Spike and Margery Walker]; this land was skirted on the north by a heavy belt of timber which afforded the best protection to the livestock on this farm.
Walker's farm, and special attention was given to the breeding of the higher grades of livestock.

Walker is a native of New York, having been born at the small town of Deposit, in Delaware County, September 22, 1847, a son of Aaron S. and Elizabeth (Hamblet) Walker.
Walker, William P. Leach, now of Sulphur Springs, Texas, and I. Ladd, who is now a resident of Detroit, Michigan, were appointed by Secretary of the Interior Hoke Smith, under President Grover Cleveland, as the board of townsite trustees, September 16, 1893, to prove up the townsite of Newkirk, Oklahoma.
Walker has taken a great interest in the development of Gage Park and it was largely through him the animals in the park were secured, and many of the animals he himself bought.

In 1873, three owners of considerable downtown property filed a circuit court suit to prevent the township treasurer from collecting that portion of the school property tax intended for the support of the high school.
The case was immediately appealed to the Michigan Supreme Court where it was upheld.

Nathan Boynton located a farm in Byron Township in the year 1835, but being taken sick, his brothers Jeremiah and William Boynton began his improvements for him, and they became citizens of the Township in the year 1836, settling in the northwestern part.
As will be seen in the notice of Wyoming Township, Byron was organized in 1836, and the first town meeting was held at the house of C.H. Oakes, in Grandville, by far the largest portion of the voters of that day residing in and near that village.
The present Township of Byron did not fill up so rapidly as some others and by the year 1850 its population had increased to only about 300.
