 | | Let's face it, Stroke 9 has the look, and they certainly have the sound: a nicely textured cross between the hazy pop of Santa Barbara's Toad the Wet Sprocket and the more jaunty and energetic rock of SF's Third Eye Blind. |
 | | The first single, "Little Black Backpack," combines the band's squeaky-clean sound with a tale of youthful anger and jealousy to produce a surefire hit, although maybe not a huge one. |
 | | Lyrically, the band sometimes lets wordy cleverness get the best of them ("Your diversion's my digression," sings Esterkyn in "Tear Me in Two"), but for the most part, this is nice, easygoing stuff good, but not great, and probably destined for the big time. |
