In the county, the population is spread out with 25.70% under the age of 18, 18.10% from 18 to 24, 26.40% from 25 to 44, 20.50% from 45 to 64, and 9.40% who are 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the county is $38,136, and the median income for a family is $45,868.

 History - Waller County Land Company
Waller County, named for Edwin Waller, was created from Austin and Grimes counties in 1873 and organized the same year with Hempstead as county seat.
The county, situated in Southeast Texas has a topography varying from a rolling post oak region in the north to prairies in the south.The area is well drained by the Brazos River, which forms the western boundary.
Population of the county was 10,280 in 1940 and 11,961 in 1950.

The county covers 514 square miles of land, from the rolling timbered area in the northern part of the county to the coastal prairie in the south, where marsh and bunch grasses grow.
Pine trees predominate in northeastern Waller County, while pecan trees are found on the Brazos river bottom, and live oak, sycamore, ash, elm, cottonwood, walnut trees, and wild fruits and berries are found elsewhere.

Waller was elected on February 1, 1836, as a delegate from Brazoria to the Convention of 1836, which met at Washington-on-the-Brazos and adopted the Texas Declaration of Independence.
In 1861 Waller was elected to represent Austin County at the Secession Convention.
Waller died on January 3, 1881, and was buried in the family cemetery in Waller County.

Kitzman, who served as the district attorney for three counties — including Waller County — from 1967 to 1979, returned to the office in January 2003 after decades as a judge.
Herschel Smith, who describes himself as a Waller County community activist and is another of the plaintiffs, said since Kitzman returned as district attorney the racial climate has changed.
Besides Kitzman, the lawsuit names County Judge Owen Ralston, Waller County Sheriff Randy Smith, Waller County Commissioners and the Concerned Citizens of Waller County, a nonprofit organization.
