The Wallowa River is a tributary of the Grande Ronde River, approximately 30 miles (48 km) long, in northeastern Oregon in the United States.
It drains a valley on the Columbia Plateau in the northwest corner of the state north of Wallowa Mountains.
It rises in southern Wallowa County, in the Wallowa Mountains in the Eagle Cap Wilderness of the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest.

Wallowa County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oregon.
In 1877, the younger Chief Joseph of the Nez Perces, incensed at the government's attempt to deprive his people of the Wallowa Valley, refused to be moved to an Idaho reservation.
Wallowa County was the scene of perhaps the worst incident of violence against Chinese in Oregon, when in May 1887 a gang of rustlers massacred 34 Chinese gold miners in Hells Canyon.

The Wallowa County Courthouse in Enterprise was constructed of native stone in 1909.
Wallowa County is now bounded on the north by the State of Washington, on the east by the Snake River which is the boundary with the State of Idaho, on the south by Baker County, and on the west by Union County.
They take their name from the Wallowa River that is formed by the confluence of the east and west forks about a mile south of Wallowa Lake and eventually flows into the Grande Ronde River.
