Walluvanad was a princely state in Kerala state extending from the Nila River ( Bharathapuzha) in the south to the Panthaloor Mala in the North.
There is a belief that Walluvanad Kings are decendents of a Pallava prince "Sreevallabha".
Angadipuram the capital of earstwhile Walluvanad, is well connected by Railways (A station on the Shornur - Nilabur line) and by road about 20 km from Malappuram and 60 km from three district headquarters of Palakkad, Kozhikode and Trichur.

The system of surplus extraction evolved by the colonial rule which sharpened the structural contradictions in society was the context in which protests and revolts took place.
During the 19th and early 20th centuries the Ernad and Walluvanad taluks of the Malabar districts were in a state of almost perpetual ferment owing to the uprisings of the Mappilas against landlords and the colonial state.

The last attempt at invasion is found recorded in the Grandhavari of the Palghat Raja.
In 917 A.D. a large Ganga (Kongu) army consisting chiefly of cavalry invaded the territory of the Palghat Raja, but was driven back with great slaughter by Cochin, assisted by the Zamorin and the Rajas of Palghat and Walluvanad.
For this service and to enable her the better to protect the country from invasion at this point, the Palghat Raja ceded to Cochin the territories known as Naludesam and Kodakaranad, which constitute the present Taluk of Chittur.

In the Walluvanad area (comprising of PARTS of present day Palakkad, Trichur and Malappuram Districts of Kerala) of South Malabar, it is considered to be demeaning to talk of such thing during marriage proposals.
Perhaps that is the reason why Dowry system is never practiced in that area.
Even in Walluvanad, among communities which traditionally followed matrilineal system, dowry system exists.
