"Moon shots" were what they called the home runs that lefthanded-batting Wally Moon golfed over the 42-foot wall a mere 250 feet down the Los Angeles Coliseum's left field line with his inside-out swing.
Moon homered in his first major league at-bat, as a Cardinal in 1954, en route to batting.304 and winning the Rookie of the Year award over Hank Aaron.
Though he didn't hit many of them, the newly arrived Moon hit them early in 1959, and his ingenuity seemed to capture the spirit of the ragtag bunch that took the Dodgers from seventh place to the World Championship.

 Wally
Born William Joseph Hesselschwardt in Defiance, Ohio in the fifties, Wally, Lead vocalist for Wally and the Beavs, first performed on stage in his kindergarten musical singing the song "Moon,Moon,Moon,Moon" after which he was sprinkled with fairy dust and put to sleep along with everyone else on stage.
Wally left Los Angeles and 'The Other Half' in 1989 and returned home to Napoleon to be a husband and father to his wife Barbara and son Michael.
After several months in detox and self-esteem workshops, Wally has weaned himself off Propecia and proudly sports his fast returning bald spot as a sign of virility.

 Wally Herbert, Noose of Laurels
First, he keeps harping on "proof" but his own 1968 book has a nice passage about how, when he (little Wally) got to the Pole, they took some pictures holding flags, because, "what other proof could we offer" or something like that.
While America went to the moon, the British tried to establish pride in conquering a Pole if not by priority then by sheer length of time on the ice.

Amazon.com: Books: Apollo: The Epic Journey to the Moon
The quest to reach the moon was indeed an epic journey involving, as I learned, hundreds of thousands of men and women to make the dream a reality.
At a time when space enthusiasts get enraged that some people claim that the moon landings were faked, one wonders why they so enthusiastically embrace books that get the history wrong.
Nevertheless, America won the race to the moon, and this book re-creates the drama the whole world experienced over 30 years ago.

 Charlie Neal BaseballLibrary.com
His best season came in 1959, when he made the All-Star team for the first time, hit 19 HR, and reached career highs in triples (11, tied with teammate Wally Moon for the NL lead), doubles (30), runs (103), RBI (83), steals (17), batting average (.287), and slugging average (.464).
His offense and playing time declined after that, and he was obtained by the expansion Mets for the 1962 season, serving as their best infielder (no matter where he played) until he was traded to the Reds in mid-1963, his last season.
The Dodgers moved in 1958 to Los Angeles, where they played at the oddly shaped Coliseum, and that stadium's 251' left-field line accounted for Neal's jump from 12 HR in 1957 to 22 (in 473 at-bats) in 1958.
