Walnut Creek is a city located in Contra Costa County, California, USA, in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area.
Walnut Creek, was first known as "The Corners," where two roads leading from Pacheco and Lafayette met.
In 1974, Walnut Creek voters approved a $6.7 million bond measure that allowed the city to purchase 1,800 acres (7 km²) of undeveloped hillsides, ridge lines, and park sites.

 City: Walnut Park trees must go
With the discovery of extensive decay in the walnut trees that dot one of the city's oldest parks, plans are being made to remove most of the trees that have stood for nearly 120 years.
The damage is evident in almost all of the 60 walnut trees in the park and could pose a dangerous situation for visitors, the city parks department said.
Some younger, healthy walnuts in the park will remain, he said, and a total of 52 walnuts will be replanted by the end of the project -- 48 to replace the decaying trees and four more to replace trees that were previously taken out.

The park is 1/2 mile past the intersection of 708 and 631.
Park in the main parking lot where there is a sign saying "bike trails." When you get familiar with the network of trails, you may want to park at the top of the hill when you first enter the part (by the front gate and shack).
Walnut Creek is one of the nicest places to ride in Va. The trails are challenging yet well maintained.

The State College Borough Council approved plans for the design phase of a wetland project to be completed in Walnut Springs Park by the end of 2005.
Bob Rightmyer, a Walnut Springs Lane resident, said that because the projected site for the wetlands is at the far end of the park, the water would not clean properly.
"A majority of the steering committee felt it was in character with the park and the scheme of the park," he said.
