  WALSALL WOOD
Walsall wood it is thought got it's name from the fact it was the Wood of Walsall.
In a charter dated 1305 Walsall Wood was mentioned when Thomas Le Rous allowed Roger Morteyn, "to go and return with Wagons and Horses at his will along the highway which leads from Walsall to Walsall Wood in return for the Ladypool".
Walsall Wood was made up of small settlements, during the early 1700's there were a few cottages at 'Goblins Pit wood', along Green Lane where the Coppice Wood is now.

The former county borough of Walsall took in Aldridge-Brownhills urban district from Staffordshire and became a metropolitan district of the West Midlands.
Bruce George is also chair of the Defence Select Committee, a member of H.R.H.'s most honourable privy council, and was leader of the international team overseeing the recent elections in Ukraine.

Walsall district health authority has shared in all those advances and has significantly improved its position as a district that includes some of the most deprived areas in the west midlands region.
Walsall is to be congratulated on its success in reducing hospital in- patient waiting lists, which were down in March 1989 by nearly 17 per cent.
The district health authority will be responsible for ensuring that an adequate range of services, including core services, is available in its district.

 CHURCHES
In 1836 The Earl of Bradford donated a piece of land amounting to one and a half acres, in the centre of the villager for the use of, when it was required to build a church.
It was designed by Isaac Highway of Walsall and was built in blue brick in the lancet Gothic style, it consisted of a nave with stone dressings and a square tower; of that original building only the tower and the West wall of the nave remain.
In 1845 the status of the church was raised and it became a separate district from Walsall and was known as, Chapelry District of St. John, Walsall Wood and from then on was not dependant on Walsall Parish and could conduct it's own affairs.

Following a successful 'Anti-Smoking' Poster competition last year which was open to all Walsall children aged between 7-9 and 10-11, it is intended to promote an 'Anti-Litter Poster' competition for the same age group, as litter in Walsall Town Centre is a major problem.
At the end of each term the schools select two pupils who have shown the most significant improvement in study, behavior and relationship with the community and fellow pupils.
When mechanical problems have been overcome it is intended to arrange a presentation with Walsall Health Authority to explore possible ways of involvement with other Rotary Clubs.

 THE RAILWAYS OF BROWNHILLS AND DISTRICT
During the year 1845 the Railways were becoming the new form of transport and anyone with money to invest in them could get a return of nearly 4% on their investment.
This man was to become a real force in the development of Brownhills and District, he was on the same level as Brunel and Thomas Telford, all great Engineers of the time.
The nearest Station at the moment is Walsall some 5 miles away, although there are plans to open a new Station in nearby Aldridge.

Five delegates from Walsall and District Branch attended this year's Regional Conference, "Back To The Future", which looked at changes in Samaritans over the last 50 years, compared with the way things are now, and the way things may change in the coming years.

Thomas Hawker, one of Walsall’s best-known tradesmen and an active and ardent support of various local organisations, passed away at his residence, Park Road, Great Barr, on Tuesday, in his 67th year.
Sutton as the chairman of the Walsall floral and Horticultural Society, and he resumed that office in 1919 and retained it for another two or three years’ and for six years, prior to 1904, he was the president of the Walsall Harmonic Society.
Their son was Benjamin Thomas born in 1880 in Walsall, England and died in Lynbrook, Long Island, NY in 1954.
